Welcome all!

We have 20 subscribers, good show!

This group is for any Linux related studying, for now our focus is on
the LPI, feel free to start topics in other areas.

You don't need to write the exams to join this list, even learning with
us is fair play.

I will ask that we keep the posts text-only, some folks have bandwidth
limits, so rather share links (via pastebin.com or imgur.com).

Feel free to say hi!
Happy studying :)

Hello,

I will be doing the exam when I am ready... best way to gauge if I get it :)  I have posted a request to the members of the UAE Loco to join in on the fun so hopefully we will be getting some more people to share in the experience...

Regards
Neil

Hi all

Having done LPIC-1 and 2 some years ago, I'm planning on making the push toward 3. Wondering if it might be worth having a bit of a role call. Who is here and which level are you studying towards? Anyway, I'll be lurking and try to answer questions as time allows.

Good day,

I am interested in doing LPI 1 closer to the end of this year as soon as i finish my CompScience exams. Just to know are there job opportunities for people with LPI certifications?

Regards,

Rodemire

Hi All,

I'm also just lurking and watching what happens to this list, I
completed LPIC-1 and half of LPIC-2, I have been contemplating
re-doing L1 as it has expired and then completing LPIC-2, but I
haven't done anything yet, I'm still wondering why?

If I had a class of wiling students, or worked with Linux daily it
would be easier.

In my experience of working with Linux in the Durban area(just over 10 years), there is a definite need for skilled Linux people. I get calls from people all the time asking me if I know anyone for positions. Most of the time though certifications don't seem to matter to many companies, unless they are some sort of big corporate where the HR departments interfere in the recruiting process. Basically people just want to know if you can get the job done. This can be achieved via practical tests during interviews, work references or looking at someone's community and online presence. Certifications are useful though as they save a lot of time going through these checks. Basically, I know that if someone has passed the LPI level 2 or 3 exams, then I can be pretty sure that I can let them loose in my network and they should be able to handle most things that come at them. I really like to see certain certifications on people's CVs when I interview them and for me the LPI ones rank very highly. Seeing an LPI cert means that I don't have to interrogate someone quite as harshly to be sure they know what they are doing ;-)

On a slightly less LPI related note, many of my Linux jobs have come not from my certifications, but through my community involvement. Having been a member of the local Linux user group, helping with questions on the mailing lists and doing presentations at user group meetings, really helps to get you known in the community and people get to know the type of person you are and what you know.

In my opinion, having both the certs and a body of evidence of your skills via community involvement, will help greatly in securing employment.

I recently left my windows development career in pursuit of one I'm
passionate about, one with Linux.

Thanks Rodney, that is encouraging to hear :-)

We have 24 subscribers now, welcome new ones! :-)

This is to remind you all: go forth and study. Q&A between everyone on
this list. It doesn't matter to skip ahead with the work.

Activity is low on the list, but that's why I want to encourage
everyone to know you are self-sufficient in this.
Confirmed: I'm moving cities in 4 weeks and will lose contact over
that period, but not for long.

Ciao!
