Hello, I’m Stephen Engelman. Welcome to the Linux FOH mailing list.

I started this group to create a dedicated space for those of us working at the intersection of professional live production and open-source engineering. My goal is to foster a community focused on building robust, Linux-based solutions for Front of House production environments.

What we will discuss here:

Embedded Development: Designing custom controllers and optimizing firmware (especially for ARM systems) to interface with professional A/V hardware.

Live Event Protocols: Practical implementation of networking standards like sACN, Art-Net, and low-latency streaming.

System Engineering: Tuning the Linux kernel and drivers for the high-stakes stability required in live production.

Linux FOH Projects: I have several specialized open-source projects currently in development that I’ll be sharing with this group soon.

Existing Linux FOH Projects and Products: It would be great to build a list of existing Linux-based projects and products that relate to FOH production, whether they are open-source or not.

A Note on Formatting: We value clear, readable technical communication. If you are sharing code snippets or configuration files:

Formatted Text: If you know how to use code blocks or mono-spaced formatting effectively, please do so to keep things legible.

Plain Text: Otherwise, plain text is always perfectly acceptable and often preferred for broad compatibility across email clients.

I’m looking forward to seeing what we can build together to push the boundaries of open-source technology in the live event industry. I look forward to learning from everyone involved.
