A father relates his decision to purchase a Linux netbook as a
Christmas present for his 11-year-old daughter.

One of the issues frequently encountered is ease of use. This responds
to that nicely as have other articles I've read over the years. It
might be worth collecting a few of these testimonies.

Further, he responds to the claim that eventually she will need to use
Windows in a job. Again, he offers his response and again I've seen
several other responses over time.

Forgive me for preaching to the choir, but I personally have done a
significant amount of work for Windows-only clients all in Linux using
OpenOffice and even on the Mac using NeoOffice. Nobody ever knew or
asked re the origins of the docs, PPTs, spreadsheets, etc. And I
always received great compliments re the timeliness and quality of my
work. So no, one does not always need Windows in their job if their
primary apps are the "office" variety.
