I was having same problem with bioapi and used the symlink suggestion.
Worked for me :)

You can also install the other Automake.* packages, which is what you
should really do, since that will guarantee 100% accurate behavior, linking
one version to a different version should only be done as a last resort,
and should never be done permanently because it can cause serious problems
down the road if you forget about it. Ubuntu:
sudo apt-get install automake.*

check and make sure you dont have anything being removed that you dont want
removed first, and then answer yes to perform the install. Always take
note on what you are installing in case you run into problems, take a
snapshot if you are unsure about the changes being made, if you have the
space.
