Hello All,

This version has an alternative way of setting the display
range for the main spectrum/waterfall. Click the frequency
scale.

Download and some more info at the bottom of this page:

Hello Leif,

Thank you for the update. I am using it with the Perseus. I like the centering feature right clicking the Frequency bar.

I have had an ongoing problem with audio popping. I have noticed a couple of things when the pop occurs. 1.) I get the pop when the Main Waterfall drops down. 2.) I also see a spike in the CPU usage in Windows Task Manager. I have had the audio drop out and needed to X out of the program and start again. When this happened the Task Manager indicated CPU usage at 100%. Linrad is using about 14% of CPU. This is a remote location and I use Logmein to view the screen. Logmein at times jumps to 50% CPU. My conclusion is the popping is caused by not enough CPU to run Linrad on the computer. I need Logmein to control the computer.

Leif,

I just tried the Perseus program that uses 20% of CPU and I get no audio pop..... Logmein usage is only about 35%. Linrad is set for screen size 100% X 95%. The Perseus only occupies around 50% of the 1280 X 1024 monitor. I will try reducing the size of the Linrad window. Maybe there are too many things changing on the Linrad display that cause the Logmein usage to go up?

Leif,

Changing the screen size to 60% X 60% has nearly eliminated the audio popping. The Logmein usage is around 25-30%.

Well, I thought I had the popping solved. The longer I leave Linrad on the more the audio chops. When I click on a new frequency the chopping goes away. I noticed the severe chopping with CPU usage under 50%....

Hello Leif,

Re ver 3.08 ( thanks for work on display )

It seems to me that the variable audio beat ( red, bfo fuction)
to set pitch is not working in SSB mode or perhaps is
set to fixed frequency, I think the latest it really what is going
on.
Also it takes much longer for the audio to come through after selecting
a signal in the bid water fall.

35 % CPU load

Leif,

It looks like all of my choppy audio issues are connected with the remote desktop program Logmein. I can monitor the audio remotely without the control of my remote desktop. (I can not see the Linrad screen, hihi). The audio does not chop until I start the remote desktop program.. Linrad is fine and not at fault. I hope you did not waste time trying to figure all of this out.

73, and thanks for the FB program. Stan, KA1ZE

Hi Stan,

This seems to be a program that runs a Web server which would
make Linrad available to another computer that runs Internet Explorer
or some other browser. This must be extremely inefficient
(if I understood right)....

Quite some time ago someone reported he could run Linrad on a
different machine under X11 in Linux by logging into it with
remote terminal. Now, that would not work with Perseus because
there is no drive routine for the Perseus hardware under Linux.

I think one can use a remote terminal also under Windows. One
can allow others to log into the computer via Internet and they
can then help with the computer configuration. I do not know if
it would be possible to run any application and whether sound
would be transmitted.

Did you try to give maximum priority (3=realtime) to Linrad?
That should allow Linrad to run at 100% CPU load while logmein
would have to use only what Linrad does not need. For that
to work you might have to set a low "Max DMA rate" to force
large buffers. You would then also have to set a large "Output
delay margin" so there is a large amount of data that may be
under processing and that would be transferred to the big
output buffer every time Linrad has grabbed the CPU.

SM0ERR has reported sucessful remote operation by sending the
wideband signal over the Internet. With the Perseus you would
have to transfer at least 96kHz*2*16bit = 3 Mbit/s and that
might be possible. I do not know in what way Mart controlled
the computer in which the transmitting Linrad program was running.

There seems to be many different solutions:

Under Windows with a Perseus attached, I use remote desktop with Icecast
and SimpleCast: http://www.spacialaudio.com/?page=simplecast

I don't use remote desktop to do the audio, since it can't do
compression to mp3 or ogg.

Works well enough - but the audio will cut out when I'm remote
desktopping in to change the frequency, but as soon as I close the RDP
session all is well. I use this with the Perseus software but I don't
see why it wouldn't work with Windows Linrad.

I'm still waiting for a real remote control daemon for the Perseus that
can compress audio to a frontend on a DSL connected remote machine.

Cheers

Hello Leif,

This is a remote desktop program that allows me to control the remote station. I see the Linrad that is running on the remote computer.

I put Perseus on a Quad Core computer. The choppy audio is no longer a problem even with the Logmein running. I blocked 1 core for Linrad.

Thanks foe the help, 73 Stan KA1ZE/3
