HI All.

Has anyone used Linrad on the IC7300? I know there are plans out there to split the signal at the antenna to feed a separate SDR receiver, but I am wondering what can be done with the basic 12Khz IF signal that is said to be present on the USB port. It is a shame that the IC7300 although an SDR is a captured system. There is no broadband IQ output from it and the 7300 makes very basic use of that SDR. If the 7300 has an output that is full dynamic range, at least an external S-meter might be a possibility.

Hi all ,

it would be very interesting if Leif could have one for loan and run measurements on it. I have seen some worrying spectrum plots regarding the composite tx noise of this transceiver several hundreds KHz away....Like it was for some FLExes

That's interesting Dom. I fed some white noise into the audio codec to look at the narrow, mid and wide TX filters. I was looking +/- 50kHz and did not notice anything untoward on 50 and 70 MHZ at 100W PEP on 50MHz and 40W PEP on 4m . I will take a closer look at the weekend at wider bandwidths. What I do know is that there is an evil mod to increase talk power that really degrades things. I wonder if that is the problem? I'll test it.

As for the IF feed into Linrad I feel that it's much better to use a wide band SDR such as an RSP2 with a splitter for point and click running than to mess about with a narrow band IF.

The waterfall on the radio is of limited use. However the radio is clean and performs very well. The NB is almost as good as Linrad - notice I said almost.

Hi All.

Tonight I did some experiments with the IC 7300. I used HDSDR since it was already installed on my PC and easy to figure out.
There are two output modes on the IC 7300 and one is available on the USB port while the other is available on the 13 pin remote connector. Both signals are available either place although I have not investigated the USB output yet. Initially the output when on SSB is baseband audio with about 3 Khz bandwidth. It has heavy AGC action on it with about a 30 db dynamic range at any instant. The other mode is the 12 Khz IF mode which simply shifts the same signal up in frequency by 12 Khz but again it has the same AGC action on it making this a useless connection.

Hello all , on the IC7300 it seems that there is some noise at 100 KHz ( or more )  away from the carrier . It could be a problem if the IC7300 is used on 2m for exemple with a transverter and a linear amplifier  . I have not done the measurements myself . This potential issue was mentined by DF9IC but I have lost the détails .

Hi All.

I do have a Softrock Ensemble II that I can run in parallel with the IC 7300 and that looks like my best option. I would like the option of using various SDR sound card programs including Linrad, so for me, it would be desirable to use the CAT control of the IC 7300 to control the frequency of the Softrock. I wonder if anyone knows how to do this and perhaps knows which Sound card based SDR programs might have this as a built in feature?

Hello Earl I have point and click tuning using Linrad and HDSDR coupled
with my IC7300 using CAT, I can give instructions this evening or at the
weekend when I have more time.

Regards

Thank you Conrad. That would be great. I currently have the Softrock on PowerSDR IQ and a 192Khz sound card. The antenna is basically in parallel with the IC 7300. I think HDSDR works too but I need to upgrade it to the latest version. I did not see any Cat control for PowerSDR which would be great, but I DID see that HDSDR can use Omnirig to provide a CAT interface. When you provide instructions for HDSDR, please tell me the version you have. I have some experience with Linrad, but it seems I have to relearn quite a bit every time I install it.
