Hi, I've been trying to install the last 4 versions to no avail.
Maybe its me. I've downloaded the msi, executed it and then executed
the add-on msi.
This is the message I always get in VS2008

---------------------------
Microsoft Visual Studio
---------------------------
Package Load Failure

Package 'LinqToRdf.Designer.DslPackage.LinqToRdfDesignerPackage,
LinqToRdf.Designer.DslPackage, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral,
PublicKeyToken=b4817ea031ba32f1' has failed to load properly ( GUID =
{6AD84C5C-3372-4914-9B69-1549024DE6C1} ). Please contact package
vendor for assistance. Application restart is recommended, due to
possible environment corruption. Would you like to disable loading
this package in the future? You may use 'devenv /resetskippkgs' to re-
enable package loading.

Yes No

Hope someone can help.
Thanks.

Hi 13sides,

Can you tell me a little more about the platform your installing on?
Things like: operating system, service packs, dev tools installed, do
you have previous versions of LinqToRdf installed, etc. What other
plugins on adons are installed in VS 2008. Which version of 2008 are
you using? I run and test on team suite. Which SKU are you running?

Am I right in thinking that you succeeded with LinqToRdf and just had
problems with the designer? Are you running in admin mode or with
lesser privilege?

Sure..
1) Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2, up-to-date fixes
2) Visual Studio 2008 Team Suite Version 9.0.21022.8 RTM
3) No other add-ons, clean installation, 2 months old
4) Also a previous installation of Visual Studio 2005 Professional still in use
5) Local Administrator always...
6) No other LinqToRdf versions installed.  After every installation test, i uninstall through the Add/Remove control panel.  I also have to manually uninstall the assemblies from %Assembly% (i.e. C:\Windows\assembly)

Also, this may help too.  After installation, there are no new items in Visual Studio.  When I try to create add a new LinqToSql item is when I receive the error message.

I also haven't tried downloading the latest code base and compiling locally though its a little difficult to download as a non-member.

Hope that helps.

As mentioned in a closed issue-report I got it to work with version
0.6 after installing the VS SDK 1.0.
But with version 0.7 I cant seem to get past that error (also tried VS
SDK 1.1 beta).
Reinstalled the whole system with only the above mentioned software
and still the same problem.

Sorry if its just my ignorance of some aspect of the Visual Studio
Environment .

Thanks alot for your help,
Hinnerk

seems there's something very wrong with that designer installer.
not sure how to go about testing it...

I think I should back away from the whole GAC installation scenario for a start. I'll produce a 0.7.1 release with no GAC, and we'll try that.

I may have had a similar issue to this recently. I updated a visual studio 2005 setup project to a 2008 setup project and all seemed ok until I ran the install and attempted to run the application - which resulted in a "fail to load assembly" type error. I got around this by recreating the setup project in VS2008 from scratch - then it all worked fine - must have done something odd to the setup project during the upgrade??

Hope this helps.

(ps I am hoping to use the LinqToRdf soon for a project working with TDWG (www.tdwg.org) RDF ontologies)
