Hi everyone, I am working on my thesis where I am doing a connectivity assessment of community gardens to other green spaces in my city, based on hedgehogs. I am a Mac user and therefore have to do my computations on the university's computer, but I don't have enough space to do these analyses on the local disk so I got a usb with enough storage, 200 mb/s reading speed and 60 mb/s writing speed.

I'm currently trying to run linkage pathways and I have 344 cores that need to be processed... it has been 5h and 30mins and the program is only on core #113. I already truncated my corridors to improve the computing time and speed but I feel like it is still taking so long and I cannot do overnight computations. I also want to note I am using quite a high resolution (3m) but I cannot go any higher than that since I would lose important landscape elements for my study.

Does anyone know what I can do to speed up the process? Maybe I am doing something wrong?? I would be really grateful for any ideas!

Hi Gabriela,

If you can get ahold of the ArcGIS and Spatial Analyst licenses, you can get Windows going on your mac and then install Arc there.  (Assuming the Mac has decent RAM and processing speed .)

I think it is called Parallels now, and used to be called "Boot Camp" a while back.  Not sure, as I am not a Mac user.

If that does not work or is not an option pls let us know.

Thanks,

JOhn
