Hello John,

My name is Harrison a post graduate student in China, I was making use of the Circuitscape Gnarly tool (the Core Mapper tool) and I have been running through some problems which I would greatly appreciate if you could help me out to rectify. when I upload the excel worksheet containing the HCA parameters, it encounters some errors give below

I would greatly appreciate it of you could tell me where and what exactly could be causing the errors and also how to correct them.

Thank you so much for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hello Harrison,

it is likely that you still need to edit your CoreMapperDemoParameters.xlsx file so that it points to the locations of your inputs.

Right now it is saying your habitat data layer is at

C:\Gnarly\CoreMapperDemo\habitat

but it may really be at:

E:\BaiduNetdiskDownload\Gnarly_Landscape_Utilities_0_1_9\Gnarly_Landscape_Utilities_0_1_9\CoreMapperDemo\habitat

IF that is the case, you'll need to update the other two columns too.

Was that the trick?

Thanks,

John

Hello John,

Thanks for your reply I edited the file locations on the parameter spreadsheet but still got the same error. I even tried using my own data but the same error still popped up. So what i did was to uninstall my microsoft office 2016 and installed an earlier version (2013) after that I also encountered a different error message saying "an unexpected error occur". when I removed the demo resistance file location, I was able to run the program. Is it possible that the Demo Resistance file has a problem?

Hello Harrison,

It is possibly but highly unlikely, since it has worked fine for me and everyone else that has tried it.  it is possible it has been recently corrupted somehow.  I'll keep an eye out to see if anyone lse has the error.  Also, I can now offer paid workshops and webinars that are the same price for 1-5 people, and a slightly higher price for 6-10 people. The students choose the duration of the class and the specific topic. If you are interested contact me off list.

Thanks,

John

Hello John
Thanks so much for your reply, I later figured out the problem wasnt the tool but rather my computer I observed the tool works best if you using a Windows 7 operating system. It was actuallly failing because the operating system of my laptop was windows 10 when i tried the tool with an earlier windows( windows 7 it worked perfectly fine). So I suggest other should take note of that.

Thanks

Update to all reading this thread, after some hiccups,  I just ran the Core Mapper Demo successfully on my C drive using Windows 11 and Arc GIS 10.8.1 and Office 19.

Gnarly Landscape Utilities Core Mapper is very fragile when using more recent versions of Microsoft Office.  Here is what looks to be a temporary workaround until we or the Circuitscape team fix the code:
