Hello,

I have a question regarding the Linkage Mapper Corridor output. The image below shows an example of the output I got from Linkage Mapper. The pink areas are my core habitat patches and the blue line is the least cost path. On the corridor raster output, green is high, and red is low (negative values).

When I first looked at the output I presumed that the higher the value the greater the corridor value for the species to move along (and that negative values were bad for the species movement), but I am not sure now as it doesn't make too much sense when compared to where the least cost path is.

As such I just wanted to confirm with the group that inversing the corridor map makes more sense in showing areas that would be less resistant to the species movement (meaning that red would be good and green would be bad).

Thanks in advance,

Finch

HI Finch,

Your instinct is correct! This is all based on Least cost path theory, So the lower the value, the better.

On another note, the output will look more traditional if you give a cost value to al lthe areas in black rather than masking them out completely.  Further, if you lower your threshold for truncated values that might yield some more nuance.  Finally, the second core down seems to be truncated by some of the black area, and a multipart polygon...

Hi John,

Thanks for your response. that makes way more sense now. is it the same for the barrier mapper output?

All the best,

Finch

Hi Finch,

I can't remember 100% off the top of my head at the moment, but it should be obvious if your path crosses over any roads. If not, please send me a screengrab off list.

I'm pretty sure it shows the amount of cost that would be lessened if a barrier is removed, so the higher the value, the bigger the barrier.

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

That is great. I think you are right on the barrier toolkit.

Thanks again.
