TheMarin Museum of Bicycling is a bicycle history museum and cultural center in Fairfax, California. Highlights include the Igler Collection showing the fascinating evolution of the bicycle with original examples from the 1860s to the 1890s, and the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame, an unsurpassed collection of mountain bikes with key provenance, showing the birth and evolution of the mountain bike. We also have a small but diverse selection of 20th century road, track, touring and transportation bicycles and related artifacts. Our Library, available for browsing, includes books, periodicals and ephemera. Our Archives include fascinating original items from the 19th century to the present day.

For those of you unfamiliar with Naild and what their suspension platform is about, please check out our in-depth feature here. We spent three years behind the scenes documenting what we felt was going to be a historic development in the history of bike suspension.

One of the most unique features of the system is the sliding, undamped stanchion in the beefy housing connecting the swingarm to the front triangle. The stanchion increases lateral stiffness and slides out as the suspension compresses through its stroke. A rocker link control arm helps give the bike a unique feel while pedaling thanks to the amount of anti-squat it provides.

We have two minor complaints, and one is very region specific. The WTB front tire hates loose, marbly rocks, and SoCal is littered with them. I ended up cutting every other nob in the transitional row and found a big improvement immediately.

Geometry After riding the Wolf Ridge we realized that many critiques we may have about geometry were trumped by the superior performance of the suspension. We still wish the head angle was half a degree slacker, even if it is just for peace of mind.

At 66.5 degrees, the Wolf Ridge never felt skittish yet remains nimble in the tight stuff. The bottom bracket sits at 13.23 inches (336mm), which is over half an inch lower than the Trek Slash, a bike I love and have spent a lot of time on.

Our size large test bike has a reach of 18.19 inches (462mm) and chainstays measuring 17.13 inches (435mm). The Wolf Ridge is comfortable for a wide range of riders in a variety of trails. The wheelbase is 47.48 inches (1206mm), half an inch shorter than the Trek Slash we mentioned earlier. The Trek also has a slightly shorter reach and chainstay measurement, but the degree slacker head angle gives it a slightly longer wheelbase.

Are you a pro-level rider who is so finely in-tune with your bike and its every movement that having a bike turn the trail into a buttery dream will leave you feeling like Stevie Wonder lacing up ice skates? This bike will probably take you a while to warm up to. But we think you will.

It is efficient and will propel the rider forward but what makes it stand out is the ability to remain efficient while simultaneously reacting to the smallest, or biggest, changes in terrain beneath you. Rocks, roots or obstacles that would slow any other bike go unnoticed. It makes you realize just how much efficiency is lost when other suspension designs encounter obstructions.

When it comes to cornering, the ultra low BB, steeper head angle and superb traction come together to deliver stellar performance. This bike rewards riders who brake late, lay it over and get on the gas hard out of the corner.

Today, visitors can see bicycles of all types from 1864 to the present day and everything in between. The museum shows the history and development of the bike. It includes items like memorabilia, vintage bikes and components, photos, media clippings, and highlights from bike races and events.

With Guy and Breeze having been among those who helped create mountain biking when the sport was just getting going in 1973, of course they also wanted their museum to showcase mountain bikes. Guy had grown up in San Rafael, and Breeze was from Mill Valley. Both were always meeting up to go ride at the legendary Mt. Tam [Mount Tamalpais].

Guy noted in particular how single chainrings have improved performance overall for all. He cited advantages like fewer mechanicals for everyone and better riding experiences for kids with developmental disabilities.

Inductees are still voted into the MBHOF, but voting is done by a nomination selection committee of people from all around the world rather than Hall of Fame members. Anyone can submit a public nomination, which is then considered by the committee.

The heart of the new versions of Marin Rift Zone bikes is a completely new aluminum frame. Redesigned, it guarantees increased strength and lateral stiffness while keeping the weight low. In keeping with the fun nature of the bike, the top tube has been lowered and the seat tubes have been shortened accordingly to give riders more space to work with their body. The frame uses all up to date standard mounts so that it will be easy to modify the equipment in the future. A significant change is also the use of the universal Sram UDH derailleur hanger.

When designing the new Rift Zone 2023 frame, the details were carefully taken care of. The cable routing system was completely rebuilt. They are still hidden in the front triangle of the frame, but there is one larger cable outlet. So on the one hand, it will be much easier to change the wires, and on the other, a special screw cap will keep them all fixed in one place, to eliminate any sounds while riding. Moving on to the rear of the bike, there are also suitable grommets to keep the cables securely in place. Elements such as a water bottle attachment or specially prepared new chain covers were also not forgotten.

We have lots of great local bus routes provided by Marin Transit. Golden Gate Transit also provides regional bus service to San Francisco, the East Bay, and Sonoma County. San Rafael is also connected to the North Bay 101 corridor by the SMART Train.
