The Prototype Theory and Prototype Effects in Language

(Prototipska teorija in prototipski učinki v jeziku)

Povzetek v angleščini:

The presentation is a small-scale exploration of the implications of Eleanor Rosch’s seminal work on linguistic categorisation and prototype theory, extending the application of this theory from the field of psycholinguistics to other areas of language, such as phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and child language acquisition. I will start by providing some information about the classical approach to language (based on binary features). Then I will present the tenets of the prototype theory and how this can be an alternative to the classical approach. The focus will be on illustrating prototype effects in most of the domains of language.
