演題:On th participle-nominalizer polysemy: Insights from Uralic and Turkic (joint work with Éva Dékány)
使用言語:英語
要旨:
This talks deals with cases in which non-finite relative clauses and deverbal nominalizations are formed with the same suffix. Previous work has referred to this phenomenon as ‘participle-nominalizer polysemy’ (Serdobolskaya and Paperno 2006). It has been observed in Uralic and Turkic/Altaic languages, in the Tibeto-Burman family as well as in Quechua languages. We argue that in spite of this label, these cases involve the same morpheme with the same meaning. We propose that the structures of non-finite relatives and deverbal nominalizations overlap to a considerable degree, and the shared suffix is contained within the shared portion of their structure. We further suggest that the structural overlap may arise in three distinct configurations, which we illustrate with case studies from Uralic and Turkic languages.
