講演題目：What we mean and how do we talk about it in a few European Languages?
(The Distributed Grammar framework)
講演要旨：Human communication is driven by the intention of the speakers
to share mental representations of their experience (what they mean)
with the hearers. The semantic content (information) relies on the
ontology as structured by language. How we talk about it
(meta-information) involves, among other things, the alternation of
old and new information, reference to the speech situation and the
choice of centres of attention (subjects, objects, topics, focus
etc.). Universal linguistic means of meta-information are intonation
and word order. Each language has its own fixed, canonical, order,
characteristic of the base utterance. Changes in the canonical word
order (with segmental markers such as particles) are used to point to
one or two prominent centres of attention (topic and focus) of the
extended utterance.
