Here are a couple more suggestions which might help. Great seeing you again at AAAL :)

Subject: Language learning in the linguistic landscape
Hello all,
I hope this message finds you all well. I'm giving a try at sending a message out to the group here with a question about my ongoing project on the LL as a resource for language learning (and language learning as a resource for LL studies, the focus of my paper at the Addis Ababa workshop).
I just discovered a new paper relevant to this area after interacting with the authors at the AAAL conference in Boston a week ago, and thought I'd share with you:
Leung, G. Y., & Wu, M.-H. (2012). Linguistic landscape and heritage language literacy education: A case study of linguistic rescaling in Philadelphia Chinatown. Written Language & Literacy, 15(1), 114-140.
along with a few others that have been helpful for me:
Cenoz, J., & Gorter, D. (2008). The linguistic landscape as an additional source of input in second language acquisition. IRAL - International Review of Applied Linguistics in Language Teaching, 46(3), 267-287.
Dagenais, D., Moore, D., Sabatier, C., Lamarre, P., & Armand, F.
(2009). Linguistic landscape and language awareness. In E. Shohamy & D. Gorter (Eds.), Linguistic landscape: Expanding the scenery (pp. 253- 269). New York: Routledge.
Roberts, C., Byram, M., Barro, A., Jordan, S., & Street, B. (2001).
Language learners as ethnographers. Clevedon: Multilingual Matters.
Shohamy, E., & Waksman, S. (2009). Linguistic landscape as an ecological arena: Modalities, meanings, negotiations, education. In E.
Shohamy & D. Gorter (Eds.), Linguistic landscape: Expanding the scenery (pp. 313-330). New York: Routledge.
This is only the beginning of a list of studies that might address questions of language learning in the LL specifically, I'm sure. I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for others I might look at, for innovative approaches? Of course, this question isn't bound to studies that identify the "LL" by name; language learning in/via/through "environmental print", "urban multilingualism", "visual public language" etc. would all be very interesting.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations, ideas, comments.
