Dear all

I am a researcher working in Mexico on L2 development

I am using TAALES to get measures of lexical sophistication on samples of learner speech which have been transcribed and cleaned up to remove repetitions and false starts. All files are in plain text (.txt). I initially ran the analysis using TAALES 2.8, but only for a few of the available measures. That analysis ran correctly.

Then I realized that I needed more measures to cover the topic of sophistication properly so I tried to run the analysis again, however, I had uninstalled TAALES 2.8 due to space issues. I tried to download again, but now do not have access.

I downloaded TAALES 2.2 and tried to run the analysis for all measures but it gets stuck and crashes on "Starting Stanford CoreNLP" and gives me a runtime error, I am attaching a screen shot.

The runtime error says the TAALES 2.2 has asked to terminate in an unexpected way.

The results files are generated but are empty of data.
  • Operating system: Windows 10 Pro, Version 22H2

  • Linguistic tool: TAALES

  • Versions of the tool:  2.2

  • Distribution: GUI

I suspect that the problem is with my computer, which may not have enough space to run the program. I have run a successful analysis of the data using TAALES 1.4, but the formulae there are not so up-to-date as in 2.2.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling 2.2, but the results are the same.

Thank you for your help

Have you installed the Java Development Kit (version 8) for your system?
