Thesedays, almost every new movie, TV show, album or book feels so anticipated and pre-packaged that we're already tired of it by the time it's released. This makes it especially thrilling when something dazzling just appears like that alien spaceship in Arrival, startling even those whose business it is be in the know.

My Favorite Thing Is Monsters is set amid the political and racial swirl of Uptown Chicago in the late 1960s. It presents itself as the journal of Karen Reyes, a precocious, inquisitive 10 year old of Mexican, Irish and Cherokee ancestry.

Karen lives with her mother and her older brother, Deeze, a tattooed womanizer facing the Vietnam draft who teaches her about art. A social outcast, Karen loves and identifies with monsters, even romanticizing herself as a werewolf girl with fangs protruding from her lower jaw.

Largely friendless, Karen spends her hours drawing, watching horror movies, going to the museum, and visiting their upstairs neighbor Anka, a lovely but reckless Holocaust survivor who reminds me of Isabella Rosselini in Blue Velvet.

If this sounds like a wild story, so is the tale of how Ferris came to write it. She was a 40-year-old single mom who supported herself doing illustrations when she was bitten by a mosquito, she contracted West Nile virus, became paralyzed from the waist down, and lost the use of her drawing hand. Fighting chronic pain, she taught herself to draw again, then reinvented herself as a graphic novelist, spending six long years creating what's clearly an emotional autobiography.

Ferris uses all this to explore the idea of monstrousness, from the small-scale cruelties of schoolyard bullying to Nazi death camps. Along the way, Karen learns to see a difference between what she calls "good monsters" who are scary because they're, quote, "weird looking and fangy" and so-called "bad monsters." They're scary because they want everyone to be scared so they can control them.

Ferris clearly knows all of Karen's emotions from deep within. Every page feels like it's been secreted from the very core of her being. In one of his essays, Michel de Montaigne wrote, "I have never seen a greater monster or miracle in the world than myself." Ferris would surely agree.

This is a coming of age story unlike any other, told and drawn from the perspective of Karen Reyes, a ten-year-old girl growing up in the 60s. Karen is completely obsessed with monsters, and consumes every magazine and television show and movie about them she can find. This graphic novel is set up as her journal, in which she records her observations of others and her inner thoughts through both words and drawings. The story is also her hunt to solve a mystery, which added another layer of fun to the reading experience.

We also see a lot of timely topics through the eyes of this child, from the assassinations of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and President John F. Kennedy, to the Flower Power and anti-Vietnam War movements, to the racism and homophobia that pervaded every aspect of life at the time. We also see the aftermath of World War II through the eyes of a concentration camp victim, which was both fascinating and almost too painful to read. Karen also conveys the importance of family and self-expression and standing up for the things you believe in. But she also showed how difficult all of those things can be, not only for a ten-year-old girl, but for the adult surrounding her.

1.) Pain Elementals because of how adorable they are and even when you hurt them they make a cute noise. All they want is just love and they never get any. Those little arms they have are perfect for Doom hug parties!

2.) Arch-Viles mainly because of all the enemies in Doom, their attack is actually the easiest for me to dodge once I eventually learned how it worked. I also love the alert noise it makes followed by the demonic ambient laughing that makes them sound way more intimidating than they really are.

Hell Knights: I just love the fact that their death scream is a cougar or bob cat roar/yell, i also quite like their color scheme, even if they are essentially a recolored Baron of Hell with different sounds and half the HP, it's sounds and color scheme makes it different enough to be considered a different monster of the same family.

Cyberdemons: Of all the Doom games i like the classic Cyberdemon design the most, i like the hydraulic thumping sounds it makes when it walks, how it's design implies that this creature is far more machine than demon due to it's weird distorted muscles, it's protruding oversized spine beneath the skin, the hollow abdominal area, filled with red wires and the way it's flesh stretches to one side of it's mechanical leg, and rocket launcher arm really makes it look like a mechanical abomination.

The only reason why the mancubus is my favorite Doom enemy is because of how easy it is to avoid its attack: Just simply step to the left, then the right, and then the left again. Also, its pain sound is kinda funny.

I love all the enemies of Doom and all about them so i dont know what to say lol, i love their design and animations and sounds.

Also, it took me forever to realize that the Cyberdemon demon had red eyes in tehsideso f his head.

When a pain elemental is destroyed near a wall, it may eject one or more lost souls through the wall, who then become trapped outside the map.

A lost soul outside the level can still open a door, if the appropriate linedef is between it and the player.

Cyberdemon - kills a full health player in one hit. I mean, monsters that don't kill the player in one hit are great to use in regular gameplay most of the time, but from a mapper's standpoint / game-design-wise, it's also nice to have a one-hit-killing monster available for specific scenarios, whether actual battles, traps, or even "puzzles".

Archvile - long attack preparation delay, then instant hit unless out of sight. Similar reason as above - the potential for interesting usage. Resurrecting monsters in its path or launching the player into the air along with dealing damage are interesting too, but difficult to control.

My favorite thing about The King of the monsters is his Atomic breath. That radioactive blast from his mouth is cool and it changes colours over time like if he's at his normal power his Atomic breath is blue but in supercharge form his Atomic breath is red or if it's burning Godzilla it's red to. But in 2001 his Atomic breath was blue until King ghidorah shot his electrical beams and hit Godzilla 2001's back or aka GMK Godzilla and is atomic breath turned into Ghidoras electrical yellow beams but instead in one concentrated on to one huge powerful beam out of Godzilla's mouth.

I've mentioned it before in another topic but what I really like about Godzilla and all the monsters he faces is how many different variations on him there are all different sizes, looks, alignments, powers, origins, personalities etc.

I especially like how even when he is portrayed as a hero and defender of humanity he continues to be threatening, his looks are deceiving when he is a hero, I love monsters and colossal creatures and dinosaurs and super heroes but it's mostly all of his unique incarnations

This is the creator thank all of you for the comments even gmkgoji and yes I agree fiyaaaa powerrrrr but I will except g h (gman)#TeamGhidorah comment and check it out to to find out why I'm fucking mad at him

Two equally favorite things 1. The Red super spiral ray not only his most powerful attack but it gets immeasurably stronger each time he uses it. 2. He can absorb energy and become stronger from radiation and electricity. Honorable mentions the nuclear pulse, the regeneration, versions of Godzilla that don't have gills.

I like Godzilla, and how he has personality, plus he has a reptilian appearance, his powerful laser of radiation, tbh I love his roar in every era and movie I listen to all day, and no matter how many humans hated him in the movies he is able to stay strong no other movie kaiju gets my like the only one being godzilla. To not offend people I will admit other kaiju are cool in their creative way but all my interests will always go to gojira, tbh I would pretend to be Godzilla back when I was in 5-10 no word can describe how much I like gojira, he is the best movie character/kaiju ever made in my personal opinion. "He picks up a bus then throws back down as he wades through the buildings toward the center of town" -blue oyster cults. Godzilla for life skreeeeonk.

You can make adjustments to his demeanour, personality, origins, etc., without changing the core of his character. As long as you retain core aspects of him like his general frame, abilities, and presence in the story, he's a very flexible character to work with.
