The Hebrew word for thanks / gratitude is HohDohT.
In Hebrew, HoDu means both turkey (the bird) and India (the country).
In the Middle East, people thought this bird came from "India" before they understood it came from the American Indians.

Half of the Israelis think this holiday is called Thanksgiving (HoDayah) because we eat turkey (3oaf HoDu) on that day.
The other half think we eat
HoDu
(turkey) on this holiday because it is called Thanksgiving.

The turkey is quite a strange bird.
Called HoDu in Hebrew, I've heard.
It's the meat from this beast
    On Thanksgiving we feast
Now isn't that really absurd?

I hope you've had a lovely time sharing World Linguistics Day on social
media and in your workplace!

If you missed out on the fun in your timezone, it's still World Linguistics
Day somewhere for at least another 8 hours.

And please do share in this thread if you wrote or created anything to
celebrate.
