Guys,

Since last 1 week, am facing this peculiar problem with my Linea
Petrol
When the car is in speed in 4th/ 5th gear @ say 40-50 kmph speed &
when I break slowly with downshifting gears well in time, the engine
got turned off 2-3 times AFTER the gears were downshifted. So, its not
exactly stalling. Once the engine turned off even at a speed of 40
kmph when the speed was reduced from 80 kmph. There is no message on
MID in last 2-3 instances though earlier 2-3 instances shown typical
stalling msg - :Insufficient Engine oil pressure, Stop & turn off the
engine".

Initially because of that message, I thought the engine oil level
might have gone down. Just last week got it checked & TASS said engine
oil level was alright. Checked it myself again after the latest
incident yday night. Engine oil level on the oil bar is almost 80-85%
of MAX level. So, that also does not seem to be an issue.

What could it be, guys?

However, the car starts as usual after such incidents

Amit,

Am very amazed at this strange phenomenon as i have never seen or
heard anything like this happening in any car. Its dangerous too as
our Linea's brakes and steering are powered and when car switches off
they would loose their full efficiency too.

Did you fill fuel from a different pump this time? The best thing
would be to go to TASS asap, get teh ECU scanner hooked up and it
would throw some error code (mail FIAT beforehand) if the ECU scanner
doesnt throw any error code then a lot of physcial checks would be
required.

Either your Idling RPM is messing up or fuel problem- highly unlikely
as you say otherwise its fine.
These cars are so technologically advanced, we can just make guesses.

Hope your Linea gets fine asap.

Rajat,

Actually I got to know from hardened steering that the engine if
turned off as the engine noise is negligible in Petrol Linea :)

Got to know from someone that this is not abnormal & has happened with
many cars incl Punto & Palio. Because of the summer heat, ECU gets
confused for air mixture as hot air gets mixed. Solution? Disconnect
battery -ve trerminal for 15 minutes to let ECU restore to its default
stock settings.
Thats what someone mentioned. I shall do it & update

@ Amit,

Thats a highly unlikely thing and a stupid fault at FIAT's part if it
indeed is the route cause of trouble. It cant get hotter than Delhi
anywhere and when we got car last year in Apr, nothin like it happened
so why should it happen now. Am worried now, let me ask a few of my
friends in Delhi too, i havent seen anything like this happening to
our Linea till now and keeping fingers crossed.

Resetting ECU aint a big task, just do it up and see if it helps.

Did not find time to disconnect the battery. Last Sunday, the car
turned off & when cranked again it displayed a message "Airbag
failure". A friend who owns a Punto was driving. He only asked me
earlier of possible reasons & restting the battery. He said he also
faced the same issue in his Punto 1.4 FIRE & it got resolved by
disconnecting the battery.

Disconnected the battery 4-5 days & reconnected after a couple of
hours. Till now the issue has not resurfaced :)

You must bring this into Fiat's notice though... its not a problem that can be taken lightly!
