Dear All,

I faced a peculiar situation today. i had parked my Linea yesterday evening in the parking and everything was fine then. Today morning I had to drop my son at school and to my horror found that the car would not start. Not a good sign for a car which is only 2 months old. Everytime I switched on the key lot of lights on the panel came on , fuel indicator, ABS etc. The display was also showing lots of different messages.

I tried for few more minutes but to no use. The interesting part was that even my attempt to lock the car using the remote key failed. I knew I had to call for help and subsequently moved on to drop my son. I called up fiat RSA from the school and started to explain the issue. As they needed lots of info I came back to my parking and thought of giving it one more try and guess what it roared into life. I switched on & off for few more times to be very sure. Everything seemed to be working fine.

I drove to office and returned back but the question still remained unanswered..what had happpened in the morning?

Any ideas on what may be the problem? If this happens on any of the long trips, I may be in deep trouble.

Kindly share your views.

regards,
Narayanan

Steering may have got locked. Thats a sure shot possibility.
Everything would happen, every light glow as usual, but the car would
not start if steering is locked.
When you came back, when you inserted the key, you would have probably
move steering slightly left/ right & it got unlocked & car got started

That is unlikely as Narayanan mentioned that he saw a lot of different
messages on display. I was also about to say that the double crank
prevention thing could have started acting here.

What kind of messages didn't you see? Remember anything?

It was definately not the steering lock as I remember very well. I am not sure if it has got something to do with the Key. I had been having some problem lately with central locking. Lot of messages were displayed and these were not the usual one's which we see. I don't exactly remember the messages.

Could it be some issues with the "rolling code system immobiliser"
which is there in Linea?

Am inclining on that as even the attempt at locking the car failed.
Maybe the immbolizer didnt recognise your key.

Have you got the issue diagnosed?

No, I have to go to the service centre. I am currently travelling and would take the vehicle to them around the end of this month. There is definately some problem with the central locking system.

Something else I found which was interesting: Even after I got out of the car after switching off and both my front doors are open, the rear door remains locked( Note:- I have not changed any settings in the vehicle)I have to spend atleast a couple of minutes trying to open/close to sort this out. Can this be an issue with batteries going down in the remote key? If it is an issue with the remote key, it may have contributed something to what I experienced some time back.  just a guess...

will keep you all posted.

Should check which all lights flash on MID when the problems occur.

Logical guess is some connection issue in electricals
