Hi,

I am proud owner of Linea Emotion Diesel. Bought this pre-owned car from Mumbai - 2009 model. Regardless of the money I had to spend on the Road tax here in Karanataka (1Lac) and the Rs. 16,000 on the ground clearance and the Rs. 2500/- on the glow plug replacement, I am happy :)

I, however, have a problem that Fiat Service People werent able to resolve.

It started with the "Airbag Failure - check owners manual" error msg - pops up only for a brief moment when I start the car and then it goes way. Took it to Aadhya Motors (Authorised Fiat Service Center near Hebbal, Bangalore)...the guy plugged in a portable "examiner" and after a few clicks said it was all fixed and working (& even updated too!! which was a lie)...Charged me Rs.800 just for using this examiner tool.

The error message continues to show up and now there is an additional problem - the lights on the dash is always on, which wasnt the case earlier.....I like to have everything fixed...so went again to the service center...who then checked and said that there must be some electric short circuit causing this error....and that I had to leave the vehicle for further testing...I refused.

I checked online couldnt find any relevant information regarding these two issues...however, did find the MultiECUScan (car diagnostics software) which requires the ELM327 cable...already ordered it and waiting....

Just wondering if anyone of you have any suggestions to fix this problem...is Car diagnostics the only way around?

thanks...

Replace the battery.  It will be all gone.

Cheers

He is right. Stock battery is crap. Go with Amaron, one rating higher than stock.

The battery that came from Factory is Exide..thought it was working fine...But will get it tested.

The thing is I didnt see any battery related performance issues...headlights, a/c etc...starts just fine even if kept idle for a week or so. Any reason why you think it is the battery? I am taking it to local technician tomorrow..so can get it checked thoroughtly..without fear of being ripped off :D

Its been there done that situation!

The car, at the time if ignition, checks for a LOT of parameters: airbag, abs, what not.. I am assuming you also get abs failure sometimes! ;-)

If the battery cant give the minimum current all these tests want, one of the test fails... And you see a warning

It does not necessarily mean airbags wont work, it means your was not able,to confirm its working ..

Hope that clears your doubt :-)

Also like I said, take battery one notch higher.. The stock battery is 50Ah, buy amaron 55Ah..

Ask your local mechanic to plug a temp battery of 55Ah, and then try to crank the engine .. Do let us know if it works :-)
