Almost But Not Quite Ready for Prime Time
By Hans Halberstadt
Okay, this really deserves 3.5 stars but since that wasn't an option, it gets three, and here's why:
The materials and construction are sturdy in a "Bogen" sort of way -- a little on the heavy side, a little coarse, a little loose here and there, but strong and functional. But typical of a lot of photo products made in China, there are things that have been left out or that will need to have you make modifications.
One example here is that the 1/4X20 cap screw supplied to attach a camera is too short -- only about 1/8in projects over the plate, not enough to secure a camera. This same screw has no retainer so you have to be sure to carefully stow it and its hex key when disassembling. A real professional grip product would have a knob on one end of this screw and a retainer to keep it where it belongs.
The camera is intended to mount on a large aluminum forged hub for the arms. The surface where the camera is mounted is smooth, flat, metal and
unless you add some sort of material to this surface, the camera is at risk of slipping out of alignment. A professional grip product would have added a little non-skid material here but you'll need to do it yourself with this product.
As mentioned by another reviewer, the manual supplied with the system is very sketchy and only begins to explain the most obvious combinations and setups. But the amusing part of the manual is that about a quarter of the document is a long discourse on what a wonderful product it is and that purchasers are encouraged to contact the manufacturer with any problems...but there is absolutely no contact information for the vendor or manufacturer anywhere in the manual or in the packaging. A Google search for Camtree produces no company website or other vendor information.
Overall this is a sturdy rig and about as good as a car mount as you are likely to find on Amazon, but expect to spend a lot of time figuring it all out. The
suction cups seem strong enough...and if they aren't and my 5DMkII falls off at speed, I will update this review.

A Great Suction Car Mount for Motion for THAT Price
By Papa-cal
This equipment is amazing! Before I bought this equipment, I've done many research on which suction car mount I should get for video. I was concern about 3 things, 1) The Price, 2) How stable would the video be, 2) the stability of the suction mount itself, how long would it last without falling off when driving...
I've came to my decision to buy the CAMTREE G-51 Gripper Car Suction Mount. When I bought it, I tested it out when shooting a friend's film. We've placed the mount on a side of a truck (shoot with T2i). The suction mount lasted for about 5 hours. It did not fall, (we took it off). The video was wasn't shaky AT ALL. It would also depends on how you place it.
It would take you some times to set up the Suction Mount on the car (depend on where). And if you set it right, the CAMTREE G-51 Gripper Car Suction Mount for Photography/Videography is worth the Price.
I've also used the same suction mount to test out the Opening (title) sequence for my
upcoming short film.
Here is the link to the video, shot on T2i. vimeo.com/54955675

A must for driving footage
By M Paoletta
This is a must have if you are needing footage of a street or community and are only a one or two person operation.
It is relatively shake free, depending on the ride of the vehicle you have. Make sure that the legs are equally apart.
It took quite awhile to set it up for the first time because I wasn't quite sure what would work best. Plus I found out very quickly that having two long legs for one suction cup allowed for more noticeable vibration. I ended up with using one long and one short leg piece per suction cup, and the best placement was with one leg on the windshield, one on the fender, and on leg on the hood. I use a level to make sure the camera is set up correctly.
You will need a monitor to see what's being filmed and to optimize. It would be nice if there were a better thumb screw to attach your camera.
Overall it's a keeper and valuable piece of equipment I use regularly.
