I am captivated by the pic of the guy carrying the deer like a purse. That is not a light load but he doesn't seem the least bit bothered by it.

Captions are sketchy, but at least there are some. 
I can only imagine the hardships the anonymous photographer(s) suffered to get this historic documentation. And that photo of Custer's Stallion, Comanche....
 
These come from Dakota Territory days - - and most are from what is now South Dakota.
