Happy New Year Everyone!
Over the past year, my work continued to evolve not only in my technique but also in seeing. In 2011, I will continue to paint botanicals but I will also be adding works with the habitats and birds that I see along the Greensprings Trail and the Outer Banks. Last weekend, I spent time with my photos of an immature male Common Yellowthroat taking a bath at the Bodie Island Lighthouse boardwalk this past November. I just posted my studies to my site.
I am now making plans for this year's events and here are few to keep in mind!
Winners' Show at This Century Art Gallery - January 4 to February 4
In addition to the work up at Brookside Gardens, I have three new pieces on exhibit at the gallery here in Willamsburg. Each piece is native to its habitat and each has its own story. If you live here in Williamsburg, I hope you will stop by the gallery. For those afar, simply click on the link below to visit.

Hampton Art’s League Annual Member’s Exhibition – January 28 to February 29
Later this month, my hydrangea painting will be on exhibit for a juried show at The Charles H. Taylor Art Center in Hampton. The juror, John A. Lee, is a visiting art instructor at The College of William and Mary. He spent an entire Sunday afternoon with us critiquing our work. I had never had an experience such as this and most of us in the room were let's say … experienced in life! He took his time to view each piece and his remarks always spoke to the strength of the work. I learned so much and then came home and decided that I needed to take my hydrangea from what I call a "greeting card" rendering to my realist style that I am naturally drawn to paint. It goes to the frame shop on Saturday! To take a peak...click on

I am giving a lecture at "High Tea" at the Carrot Tree Restaurant on March 16 and the local Herb Society in April. Next week, I will select my 2011 CDR Bid n Buy Auction donation. The auction is on Sunday, March 13 at the Hornsby Middle School. Also in the month of March, I will have a piece or two at The Williamsburg Library for our Historic River's Virginia Master Naturalist nature photography and art exhibit, a traveling exhibit that will be available for other venues as well and I am waiting to hear more about placing a piece at the Virginia Beach Home and Garden Show this March!
For those of you who are planning to attend my workshop at The Elizabethan Gardens this year, the dates have moved up one week --- Thursday to Saturday, May 12 to 14.
I will again be hosting children's art workshops at The Williamsburg Ellipse Botanical Garden, botanical art demonstrations at The Gallery at York Hall, and I am now in conversation with The Elizabethan Gardens to become their “Botanical Artist in Residence”. I hope you will check back with my website from time to time, as I set the dates.
Please remember --- I am available to lead a workshop designed just for your group, I love to paint botanical and nature mural,s and I am happy to work on a commission basis as well.
Best wishes to you and your family this New Year! Linda
