Before writing a test program for port A, does one exist?  So far, everything works just fine, except Port A.  Trying "console a" and nothing in or out.  CP/M-80 is running very well too.  I bought the following hardware from Amazon (US):

So far no issues, other than two solder blobs that stopped the board from running right.

If no test program exists for port A, does the ROM initialize Port A (I would assume yes)?  So a simple port banger would do it.

Hi Robert

There is not a test program as such, but just selecting "console a" should work.

Serial port A is configured by default for 9600 baud, as described here:

I assume you have the necessary cables, again as indicated at the above link.

Steve's decription here is spot on. The SIOA serial port should work out of the box. Not that the SIOA is a full RS232 port with 12V signal levels on a DTK pinout connector, and clocked at 9600bps by default. Refer to http://linc.no/products/linc80-sbc1/on-board-devices/#serial for documentation.

In addition to issuing the "console a" command, using the Grant Searle Loader may be used as a "verification tool" of sorts. For more information, look up the two differen ways to start GSL at the Software documentation http://linc.no/products/linc80-sbc1/software-for-the-linc80/#gsl

And I probably should have started this post with the question: Are you still having issues? :)

Jon,
to answer your last question first, Yup, still having issues with the A
port.  The B port works like a champ.   So, since the weather is fine, I
am going out to fly my quadcopter, do some observing through my scopes,
do a little testing of new hardware for my portable scope until it rains
this weekend.  Then I will get back to why port A is non-responsive.

Clear Skies,
