Registration weekend has gone by – but you can still register! The South African president has not proclaimed the date of the 2019 elections. We believe the elections will take place in May, and the voters' roll will remain open until the date is set. It is now your chance to register to vote if you have not done so over the past weekend. You can register to vote at your local IEC office, or by getting in contact with your local DA councillor who can help you with the process. Help us reach South Africans living abroad so they can vote in the 2019 election. Well, they can, and it’s important that they do! We know that many South Africans living abroad still care deeply for our country, so we want to make sure that they are informed about this opportunity to cast their vote for change in South Africa. But we need your help to reach them. Especially as we have less than 24 hours before the final overseas voter registration weekend takes place. You can give us their information by completing this online form. Voting abroad is not as easy as voting in South Africa and we’ve been trying hard to change that. Until it becomes easier, it’s critical that those overseas are informed as early as possible about what they need to do to vote, so they have enough time to take these necessary steps: STEP 1: Check their registration status on the IEC's website. If they are already registered to vote in South Africa, they DO NOT need to re-register in order to vote abroad. STEP 2: If they are not registered, then they need to do so as soon as possible at their nearest SA foreign mission during their opening hours or during the special overseas voter registration weekend from 1 – 4 February. They will need BOTH their valid SA passport and green barcoded, smart or temporary ID in order to register abroad. STEP 3: Once registered, they will need to submit a VEC10 form on the IEC’s website informing the IEC where they intend to vote abroad. This form will only be available once the date of the election is announced, and you will only have 15 days to do so. STEP 4: On election day, they need to take BOTH their valid SA Passport & ID Book/Smart Card with them to their nearest SA foreign mission to cast their vote. If you know any South Africans living abroad - perhaps friends, family or colleagues - you can help inform them about voting abroad in 2019 by doing any of the following: 1. You can give us their information by completing this online form. 2. Forward this email to them. 3. Email their details to us at con...@da-abroad.org or via WhatsApp to wa.me/447958291141 and we’ll follow up with them. This is the most important election our country will face since 1994. The DA's pledge to SA in 2019 is to ensure fair access to jobs, to fight corruption, to speed up service delivery, to provide an honest and professional police service, and to secure our borders. This is how the DA will move South Africa forward and build One South Africa for All, a South Africa that all those abroad can return to. Let’s help them have a say in that future!
