I am one of many people who purchased a language locked (Hungarian, Polish, Russian) SimCity game to save a few $$$. The thought was we would be able to swap the English Data.package (in SimCity/SimCityData/Locale/pl-pl) over to get the game in our preferred language. The following method floating around the web does not work.
Opening the english Data.Package up with a hex editor, you can find a couple area's that might be edited to maybe get around this error, and force the game into thinking you are using a supported Data.package file. Searching for value's such as "Locale", and changing English to Polish, or searching for "ENUS" and changing it to "PLPL".
Now, the date file got replaced by a newer one so I want to modify it just like you did. I've opened your data.package with SimCityPak and I've seen what you modified but unfortunately, I can't find the right program to open the file correctly and modify the two lines.. I've tried some hex editors but the file always end up corrupted..
I took a look in the Data.package and found a PROP string in simcitypak that contains strings about the language, however i cant seem to find the same string in s3pe. sct_nicolaus would you mind to share the changes you did to the data package files so that i can do the tweaks myself the next time it updates? im guessing there will be a fair amount of updates the coming days.
I've just contacted Origin support via live chat and they've changed my language version (although it required re-downloading whole game as it had different app-ip or something and I forgot to back up previous version)
I don't think this will work for us who bought the serial at an online reseller. I fear EA support will look into the logs and see my other story I tried with previously You bought a hardcopy from stores, right?
If you've got it from online reseller then... well... you have to be creative. You can try to tell them that you got it from your ancient Polish grandma or something I don't think that they can tell if your serial number is from digital or boxed version (afaik lots of serials sold by unofficial resellers are taken from boxed versions).
I dont believe that they gona send me eng version of the game, because i bought it online from one rus page cheaper than origin i contacted ea support via livechat and that lady told that she cant help me....thats all
Thanks for uploading those packs, they work just fine. BUT I have a question: Is there any way to chance these text lines, appearing on the region wall, to english? I don't speak any Hungarian so it's kinda annoying.
