Limusa Angered by Numsa’s collaboration with Employers
26 March 2019
The Liberated Metalworkers Union of South Africa is angered by the continued unholy collusion between Numsa and Employers in metal industry. Amongst many other instances, yesterday our members at TUB manufacturing in Jet Park were told by the employer that they no longer need LIMUSA and clearly the employer wants workers to join Numsa. Our members were told that Limusa is a Fighting union and the employer is not happy to be working with Limusa.
The CEO of this company went to the extent of inviting Numsa official to address workers when they don’t have members in this company. Section 12 of the LRA clearly states that, it is the office-bearer or the official of a representative trade union that is entitled to enter the premises of the employer to recruit or communicate with it’s members. In this case that union is LIMUSA. This is the highest form of desperation from the employer that is hell-bent of purging Limusa in favor of their sweetheart union.
As LIMUSA we are not going to be apologetic for being a fighting union. It is our responsibility to fight and defend workers from exploitation of employers. LIMUSA will continue to champion the struggle of workers and we don’t expect employers to like us. We will fight this unlawful collaboration. We are not going to fold our arms when workers are oppressed by employers and now working with people who are supposed to be defending workers.
Numsa is no longer a trade union that fights for workers. That is the organization with leaders who have abandoned the struggle of workers and became more interested in business and politics. The formation of the so called SRWP is the clear indication of what this union has become. It shows the ambition of union leaders to go to parliament instead of fighting for betterment of working conditions for their members.
LIMUSA is the only hope for metalworkers in South Africa. It is the only metalworkers union that has not formed and not willing to form a political party. We are not confused, our duty is to defend members and not employers as others do.
