LIMUSA CONDEMS MLE ELECTRICAL CONTRATORS UNSCRUPULOUS ACTIONS
Liberated Metalworkers Union of South Africa (LIMUSA) in Gauteng condemns the continued unscrupulous actions by a company called MLE Electrical contractors in Johannesburg. This employer continues to disregard the health and safety of workers and their livelihoods.
The union has made all attempts to engage the employer during the Lockdown about the income of workers and the application to UIF on behalf of workers has been met with arrogance of the management of the company. The company instead of attending to issue raised by the union resorted to treats and refusal to bargain with the union.
As the regulations were relaxed to reopen the economy we had engaged the company to provide the union with risk assessment and safety plans to ensure safety of members before reporting for work which all ignored.
We are call on this company to prioritize safety and livelihoods of workers by engaging the union on safety plans and advancing salaries for workers to be able to travel work. Workers in this company have not received any income since March when the Lockdown was declared.
We are further disturbed by increasing number of Covid-19 positive cases in workplaces around Gauteng in our industry. We therefore call on the department of Labour and Employment to increase capacity to enforce the Health & Safety regulations.
