Hi There,

Has anyone came across a smalltalk error while trying to print
reports? If someone has can you please tell me if you found a way to
resolve this issue.

Thanks,

Hi There,

We are using the Labware Lims software product version 5. The error
that comes up just says Smalltalk V error and we can't recreate, its
not a consistent error. But it only occurs when people print reports
from their folders. Sometimes it will show up and then sometimes
everything prints ok without any errors. We have contacted lims and
they figure its a memory leak with crystal reports and their solution
is to update one of our modules. I believe its module 305 that we are
updating. Just curious if you have seen or heard about this error and
what the fix might have been. Also, when the error occurs it boots you
right out of Lims.

Thanks for any advice,
John

John,
Ugh! The dreaded SmallTalk V error!

I haven't seen this error in this exact situation, but their explanation sounds reasonable. What's module 305? Is that the one that allows you to print to PDF without have full Adobe installed?

You said it only happens when people print from their folder, but I'm wondering if you could tell what you mean, so:
  • Is this problem only with specific reports?
  • If so, can you print these reports outside the folder (i.e., via a QT/AR) without a problem? Because, you could actually create a QT/AR that brings up your folder objects to put in the report. That's not ideal, but it could indicate a folder bug.
Here's another thought:
Folders directly send their data to reports, unlike a standalone item in the report menu that requires a QT/AR. Other objects work the same way. So, do you have these types of reports elsewhere in your LIMS? What I mean is: do you have reports in the report panels in places besides Folder Manager? If so, it sounds like you haven't had problems with those other "managers."

Bottom Line:    It's probably either what they said, or a problem with folders that run reports, or the specific reports.
