in this group?
I’ll go ahead and throw my opinion in on this since the recent posts seem to favor ads on the list.
From my perspective (read: opinion), the list should be used to respond to those querying or seeking information relating to LIMS and related subjects. My concern with posting unsolicited ads is that as John Jones pointed out below – it would require serious moderation by Stu. I really think that could become quite burdensome for the moderators – and subjective.
I’m sure all of us have seen other groups degrade to simple marketing and promotion areas. When this has historically happened in other areas – I have found myself simply ignoring posts from that group and ultimately dropping off.
To avoid the potential (and very likely) situation of misuse - I believe that a forum post that contains marketing material that is in response to a member query is acceptable but an unsolicited marketing post is not. Let the forum users express the need to which those of us who have applicable experience or product or service may respond to if appropriate.
Thoughts?

Poll: Do you want to see ads for training courses in this group?
Gloria,
My thought on this is that this list is about the only list/service for the LIMS community without a commercial bent to it. Unfortunately, the list does not have much traffic either. On the other hand, I believe that what makes this list have a loyal following is that fact that when people do post something, it is something that is useful. Lot's of vendor stuff can be considered useful and informative. My only fear is that it starts to degenerate and there is will be no clear and fair way to say when something is spam and when it is something someone cares about. One person's spam is another person's information.
I have mixed feelings on all this and do not like it when people flame others because they posted something that someone might consider spam. I do think everyone should be very tolerant of postings even if they push the boundaries or even go beyond. We just need some moderation and common sense. Since the list is very well moderated by Stu, I change my mind and think such posting should be fine as long as it does not end up with a spam free for all. Stu could kill posts that go over the top.
John

I want to point-out that I was the person that suggested to Delphinus that
their course might be of interest to people within the LIMS discussion list and
to see if they could post it.
I thought it looked useful and comprehensive and looked at it, myself, as
another learning resource to share with people.
I wanted to say this to make it clear that Delphinus didn't suddenly decide to
post/spam a number of lists, but that I specifically directed them, here. If it
turns out to be inappropriate, I hope you won't hold it against Delphinus
because this was at my instigation.
