Many of us are using social networking tools for our LIMS and Laboratory Informatics connections. Those that aren't already using these tools are probably soon to start, according to a recent article in one of the magazines (I think it was CRM, but threw it out and can't remember for sure).

We're using tools, such as LinkedIn, Plaxo, Xing, Ning, eCademy, Viadeo, and a host of other tools to find resources, stay in-touch, look for jobs, find consultants, and any other activity that relates to our professional life in LIMS/Laboratory Informatics.

I'm very much invested in my LinkedIn community, but am curious what else is out there.

So, right now, my LinkedIn LIMS/Laboratory Informatics group is the largest LIMS and/or Laboratory Informatics group in LinkedIn and is active. For those that are in LinkedIn, already, and wish to join, the link is:

For those that aren't already in LinkedIn, you can fairly easily join LinkedIn for free, unless you want a fancy membership which most of us don't need.

Likewise, I would be interested to hear what types of groups the rest of you run or belong to that are specific to LIMS/Laboratory Informatics, but in other places besides LinkedIn. Besides this Google discussion group, that is.

For those interested people working with software such as LIMS, CDS,
ELN, SDMS, LIS, and the like, the LIMS/Laboratory Informatics group is
still growing and active. To read more about it, here is a recent
"Scientific Computing" article I wrote to explain how it came about:
http://www.scientificcomputing.com/lims_guide/content.aspx?lims=116&id=8134&LangType=1033

Or, to just join it, the link is:
http://www.linkedin.com/e/gis/36640/6A50095E87BA
You will need to signup with a LinkedIn account, but most of us just
use the free one. At over 1800 members, it continues to be both the
oldest and the largest group on this topic in LinkedIn. Also, because
of the effort to keep down advertising or spam, the group continues to
be useful.
