Here's information on the Boston LinkedIn LIMS/Laboratory Informatics
group, for anyone that's interested in these meetings:
Here's the latest Boston LIMS/LI developments!
To those of you that missed October's meeting, you missed a great
presentation by John Newtown of LabWare. We had a great turnout!
As previously announced, John had offered to provide a review of LabWare
systems, and make suggestions during the meet. He also covered some of
the newer features in LabWare, including WebLIMS, Web Services, Visual
Workflows, Document Management, Storage Location Manager, Workflow
Manager, and more. He also gave us a preview of their new ELN module due
out later this year which generated a lot of interest and discussion.
Following the meet, we all went to Vinny Testa's for refreshments and
appetizers, where the discussion continued for nearly another 2
hours!
Thanks again John for a great meeting!
November's Presenter: Mark Murawski from Thermo Fisher
Scientific will give a presentation on system integration:
- Connecting the Laboratory from Instrument to Enterprise
- The full potential of a LIMS can best be realized when it serves as
the foundation for an enterprise-wide IT strategy. LIMS needs to be
both a fully integrated laboratory solution for sample management and
reporting and be capable of being integrated with key processes such as
procurement, manufacturing and quality management.
-
- To enable seamless enterprise-wide integration, companies must select
a LIMS capable of being more than a stand-alone system within a
lab. An ideal solution is a LIMS that serves as an integrated
platform capable of supporting key enterprise processes and
systems. Key LIMS requirements include XML web services, allowing
open communication with lab and enterprise applications, and
client/server functionality, providing greater access to information and
insight into data across all parts of the organization.
-
- Integrating instruments and systems transforms data into the relevant
business drivers necessary for today’s demanding environments. This
presentation will explore the important role that LIMS integration can
play in a company’s enterprise IT strategy and some examples of
successful integration projects.
