Hearing and listening differ in engagement and intention. Hearing is a passive physiological process in which sound waves are detected by the ears, allowing us to perceive noise without actively focusing on it. In contrast, listening is an active and intentional process that demands concentration, comprehension, and emotional involvement, enabling us to interpret and respond to the communication. In essence, hearing is simply receiving sound, while listening is about understanding it.
