Youneed the controller that looks like this and the 433mhz fob. Also you need an sdr dongle with the realtek chipset ( -NESDR-Mini-Previously-Compatible/) (Cost 20 Jan 2019) and a Pi Zero W ( -pi-zero-w) (Cost 10 Jan 2019) and a piece of wire between 20cm and 70cm in length because we will be using the amazing RPITX to create the RF signal without any other hardware except the Pi Zero many thanks to F5OEO for creating it.

Have the controller in your hand, and choose the first option to capture, then press the on button and press enter again to stop capturing. You should of course see the symbol on the heater control unit flash, or if the heater is off it will say On and start up.

Choose the second option to replay and you should see the remote signal symbol flash on the diesel heater control - if it does happy days!! If not repeat with a different gain, check for an offset with your dongle with sdr#

There are a few issues though, if you follow the tutorial exactly you will still be missing some modules. When you get to the stage where you run the configure script it will end with an error telling you which missing modules you need, you can apt-get install the missing modules and restart it eg. if you are missing openssl run

When you are done you need to register a new telegram account on another device and then go on to log into it using telegram-cli because the procedure described in the pimylifeup tutorials is out of date and new registrations are only by android and ios now. If you want to do it all on a computer, run an android phone emulator in virtualbox and use that to create the account. When you log into the account on telegram-cli you will see the activation code pop up on the device you have already registered.

Now you can paste these two lines into the file and then ctrl-x Y to quit and save. We will add the shebang line so we can call these from the .lua script without using chmod. If you want you can chmod u+x to these anyway to call them just by name

now you want to add in your if then statements to call scripts we will create next. After the first if..then which looks out for 'ping' and responds 'pong' add these. Of course change the letters to ones of your preference. For quickness and siri control it makes sense to use single letter commands, you can of course have multiple commands for the same action.

Now if you want certain temperatures you can send 27 plus commands followed by the 35-x minus commands where x is the target temp. Just repeat the ox.execute line as many times as you need, or call a script where you repeat the send command. Thats it you're done

Install the screen command to open your bot and leave it running when you log out (apt-get install screen)As your power source might go down, you can add the screen command that launches telegram to a startup script (see -a-prog... because the telegram ios app integrates with siri you can now start and stop the heater remotely handsfree in just a few seconds. Happy days! If you do not already have dedicated internet at the site with the heater you need a cheap mifi unit, the older 3g dongles are available for 15-17 and of course you need a pay as you go sim. 5 of credit should last for years because the telegram app will use a few hundred kb a month at most. Some networks will have an expiry time for credit so be aware what it is. A new 3 sim includes some free data I believe when its registered. Of course the number of the sim doesn't matter so you can swap it with another at any time and it will all still work.. Just alter the wpa-supplicant.config to add ssid and password.

I modified some code which emulates a Belkin wifi switch (I honestly cant remember where to give credit, probably kakopappa) & is picked up by alexa, then when it activates it pulses the relay for 600ms then turns the relay off emulating the button press, turning off is the same but with a longer delay of the relay turned on to turn off the heater.

The last little niggle for me is that the relay is only on when it needs to be & not on all the time when the heaters running, so Alexa sees the pulse & registers it on then its default to registered off when the heaters running.

Does anyone know how Alexa sets its state ? I figured it was with isHeaterButtonOn but even setting that to true it turns off anyway, I'm actually now wondering if i can take it out of the loop function & set it to On afterwards?

The blue/green/red display at the base of the display reflects the heat status of the diesel heater. I don't know the precise designations but, basically, one blue says it's starting and the glow plug is on; two blues say the the glow plug is getting hot; one green says combustion has started; two greens say combustion is doing well; the red says it's working properly - or something like that :)

The long awaited smartphone controller has been updated. Planar heaters can now be controlled from anywhere via a smartphone app downloaded to your mobile phone. We have tested it in house and love it. The smartphone controller is operated with an easy to use app to control the heating (this can also be used with Planar Water Heaters). The Modem is fitted in addition to a normal controller i.e Rotary PU-05 controller, simple digital PU-22 controller and seven day timer controller as well as the new Comfort Controller.

Simply download the app at google Play and AppleStore (search planar heater) and start using the Autoterm Air Planar *NEW* Smartphone Modem. Please note you have to purchase a pay as you go sim card to install in it and using the modem will use up text message credit.

Product is excellent. It is noisy as are all these hydronic heaters of this design. Used intake silencer and sound blanket over unit made it very quiet. Included parts are outstanding and complete; I used all of them. The controls work well. The instructions on the controller are very difficult to follow (almost worthless) but once you figure out how to set the control works great.

The unit itself runs flawlessly. It is the second one I have bought as I was so impressed with the first one.

I have this installed in my Hybrid camper (Rockwood Roo), it kept me warm down in single digits (farenheight) without any issues! Doesn't use much diesel and it's much quieter than a propane furnace. The thermostat isn't too accurate on the temperature setting, but you can usually turn it up high enough to maintain an average. I'm very happy with it and I'll be looking to add more of them to other vehicles!

The unit makes a lot of noise from the fan not the exhaust. I believe it is defective. Message to the seller to exchange the unit will update when when I hear back from the seller

The sellers stand behind their product and refunded me for the defective product. I am very happy with the seller. I will try another one of their products.

The closest what I have found is GitHub - jakkik/DieselHeaterRF: Simple library for Arduino (ESP32) to control a Chinese diesel heater through 433 MHz RF

It is simple hardware that communicates with heater (basically all cheap chinese heaters have RF support, the question is only if you have purchased remote too). Since it is ESP32 based, it should be quite easy to integrate with ESPhome.

Another option is GitHub - wshelley/Chinese-Diesel-Heater-Advanaced-Temperature-Controller: A simple Arduino inline extension to Chinese Diesel Heaters to help maintain a stable temperature by gracefully shutting down the heater if it gets too hot.

The Sonoff RF Bridge copies the remote control signal of the heater.

And in HA I use the integration SonoffLAN and the remote buttons are entities, so I can turn the heater on and off.

Leisure battery maintenance

Your Challenger Ignite controller is an active communications

device. With Wifi enabled it has a standby power draw of 160ma.

This can be reduced by turning Wifi off on the controller.

By default the display screen is set to dim after 1 minute,

this can be changed to screen off to further reduce standby draw

within user settings on the controller.

The Challenger heater is supplied 12.5v via your leisure

battery, it is connected via a single red wire with a 20a fuse and

holder on the + terminal. To remove power, remove fuse.

Common user issues

E01 - Check your battery voltage and re charge as required.

If you have a split charge system, start your vehicle to

increase supply voltage.

E08 - Add more fuel to tank.

Best advice is not to drop below 1/4 tank at any time as diesel can air lock

and cause issues on re fuelling.
