Hi list & Ricardo,

I purge the OAJ data from my Foxray database once a year. The purged data are kept in the Archive directory, and it's a text file. So far so good.

I just got a request from a user in search of OAJ data going back beyond the purge date, into the period that has been purged.

Questions: Is loading the purged data back into the current OAJ table my only avenue? Or can I create a temporary OAJ table to load the purged data into it, do the query, and discard the temporary table? (If yes to the latter, how to do that?)

Thanks!

You can do it. just create a new network and then load into that network instead of the original one.

Then you should be able to query that and discard when finish
Let me know if you face any issues

Thanks

Ricardo,

Okay, that sounds reasonable enough. I'm looking at the Server Configurator right now, so I don't even have to go hunting for how to create a new network.

Thanks!

Ricardo,

I created a dummy network and loaded the purged OAJ data, about 2 GB worth of it, into the OAJ table. Works great. Thanks for the help.

Duc,

Why would you purge the dbse records after 1 year? We have 5 or 6 years in the dbse. Not that we need it, but it’s easier to keep it than to create a dummy network and load the purged data……

I just like to make my life harder!

But seriously, we were previously hampered by the 8 GB RAM limit imposed by the OS (Windows Server 2003) on our Foxray server, hence a desire for a trim database corpus. Earlier this year, we upgraded the hardware and OS to run Windows Server 2008 Enterprise at 64 bits with loads of RAM, so the need to keep a trim database is not as important as before. I might have to rethink my housekeeping procedure now in light of that improvement.
