Wednesday, Sept 15:
THE HOOSIER SCHOOLMASTER (mp3 Audio)

Now let's go back even further in time, and see what
"school" might be like for your kids if you were living,
on the American frontier 150 years ago!

THE HOOSIER SCHOOLMASTER by Edward Eggleston was a
famous novel about an enlightened schoolmaster in the
fictional Indiana community of Flat Crick, and recounts
all sorts of fascinating details about life in the
mid-western American countryside in the 1850s.
Though the book inspired two movies and was a best-seller
for decades, it is pretty much
forgotten today and is not currently in print.
This classic AUDIO DRAMATIZATION of this famous story
highlights some of the shenanigans and adventures that
might have taken place back in the days of the one room
country schoolhouse. Just be glad this sort of thing
doesn't happen in YOUR homeschool... or does it? :)

Friday, Sept 17:
AUTUMN STUDIES:
Primary Lessons in Nature, Literature & Art (PDF ebook)

Give your children an appreciation of the wonders of
nature during this Fall season with this classic
compilation of lessons on nature, incorporating
literature and art. "The aim of this study", says
the author in the preface, "is twofold: First,
to cultivate the higher nature of the child and
lead him toward his Creator; and secondly to develop
his intellectual powers and lead him to acquire a
knowledge of his physical environment."

This vintage text, first offered here last year but
repeated today because of numerous requests,
includes lots of neat little lessons on plants,
trees, insects, birds and the Fall season, right
up to Thanksgiving, with Q&A lessons, poems &
other readings that make this a real
treasure-chest of goodies that can easily be gleaned
and incorporated into your own homeschooling this Fall.
Check it out!
