CONFERENCE 

"La liberté de conscience enjeux dans le monde arabe majoritairement musulman" 

Par Dominique AVON, Universitaire et historien français spécialiste de l’époque contemporaine. 

La rédaction et l’approbation de la Déclaration Universelle des Droits de l’Homme (DUDH) (10 Décembre 1948) s’inscrivent dans un moment singulier de l’histoire, au cours duquel des hommes et des femmes, venus d’horizons divers, cherchent à fonder un socle de garanties individuelles selon une expression commune. Parmi ces droits, ils choisissent celui de « liberté de conscience » qui met en jeu trois types d’acteurs : l’individu-citoyen, croyant ou non, l’autorité politique et l’autorité religieuse. L’évocation de ce droit suscite des réserves parmi les représentants de plusieurs Etats-membres, mais aucun d’eux ne vote contre le texte. La conférence aura pour objet de retracer le chemin parcouru par cette notion, depuis son émergence au xvie siècle, jusqu’à sa transposition sous la forme d’un droit individuel et à sa diffusion dans différentes sociétés. Elle visera surtout à montrer pourquoi et comment ce droit est à la fois contesté et défendu depuis la fin des années 1960.
