A couple things to consider for your alts:
1) Rather than mail money (which costs postage), deposit it in the guild bank.
2) Consider taking up disenchanting and destroying your soulbound
items for mats that you can sell. Also consider not doing so: if free
character transfers open up, or get cheaper, we might be able to play
these some day.
