To team captains and others interested in coed indoor soccer:
Registration is now open for Arlington’s Winter 2012-13 coed indoor soccer league. Please read this email carefully and pay attention to the deadlines and other information.
Registration will use the staggered deadline system. Returning teams from Fall 2012 may register during the first week, and registration is now open for these teams at https://www.youthleaguesusa.com/arlington/Registration.html <https://www.youthleaguesusa.com/arlington/Registration.html> . Returning teams will be given priority for the Winter season only if they register and pay by Tuesday, October 16. Beginning Wednesday, October 17, registration will be opened for new teams, including teams that played last winter but are not playing this fall. Fall 2012 teams that register after October 16 will not have priority to keep their spot in the league and will be treated equally with the new teams, accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. It is very important for returning teams to register NOW, by October 16, if you want to keep your spot for the Winter season.
On Wednesday, October 17, registration will open for all teams at https://www.youthleaguesusa.com/arlington/Registration.html <https://www.youthleaguesusa.com/arlington/Registration.html> . The registration deadline for all teams is Monday, October 29. Slots that remain open after October 16 will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment of team fees and non-resident fees must be submitted to qualify for your “first-come” date.
We strongly encourage all teams to register online and make payment online by credit card. However, there is an option to pay by check when you register online, as long as payment is received by the above deadline(s). The league fee is $600 per team, and out-of-county / business resident fees are $30 each.
Divisions. During the winter, we will offer three divisions of play:
- Upper - Mondays at the Gunston Bubble only
- Middle - Thursdays at the Bubble (synthetic turf) and the Barcroft Sports & Fitness Center (wooden gymnasium)
- Lower - Thursdays at the Bubble and the Barcroft Sports & Fitness Center
Up to nine teams will be accepted in the Monday Upper (most competitive) division. 22 - 24 teams will be accepted for the Thursday Lower (least competitive) and Middle divisions. Please sign up for the division you believe is most appropriate for your team, based on your indoor record last season and/or last winter, your outdoor season, and/or the players who will be on your roster. I reserve the right to make division changes if appropriate or necessary (but I won’t do it without contacting the team captain first).
If fewer than nine teams register for the Upper (Monday) division, I will expand the size of the Lower and/or Middle division(s) and will schedule one or two games on Mondays for those divisions. I will ask for your input about scheduling and I expect to be able to avoid Monday games for teams that can play only on Thursdays. At least - it worked last time I tried this.
Season Dates. League play will begin Monday, December 3 and Thursday, December 6, and run through mid-late March. Each division will play ten games, plus a single-elimination post season tournament. Games will be 25 minute halves in December and March, but we only have time for 20 minute halves in January and February (due to competing demands for time at the Bubble). I apologize in advance for any confusion this may cause. I figure it’s better to get the 25 minute halves as much as we can, rather than being consistent with 20 minutes halves for the entire season. Residency Requirement. All teams must have at least 66% Arlington residents. People who work but do not live in Arlington are considered “business residents;” they count in meeting the residency percentage but must pay the $30 non-resident fee. People who work for Arlington County government and their spouses, people who work for Arlington Public Schools, and military personnel assigned to an Arlington work location are considered regular Arlington residents and do not pay the non-resident fee. Proof of residency / employment must be provided before the season begins for any for new Arlington residents or business residents who were not on your team’s roster in the summer or fall season or who have not provided proof of residency with a different team / league. Teams that do not submit all paperwork on time will be dropped from the league in favor of teams on the waiting list.
Individual players looking to be matched up with a team can register online as a “free agent” at this site (https://www.youthleaguesusa.com/arlington/Registration.html <https://www.youthleaguesusa.com/arlington/Registration.html> ). No payment is required from individuals during the registration process; payment will be worked out with team captains once a player is added to a team. Team captains are encouraged to access the free agent list online to find additional players for their teams. Captains need to register their team before they can access the free agent list, but they can contact me if those players are needed to be able to register, and I will send you a list. For individuals - registering as a free agent is not a guarantee that you will be placed on a team. To improve your chances of being picked up by a team, please register as soon as possible.
