Here are a few items to configure when you want the Lightjams computer to run unattended:
  • Enable auto turn on when there's power (computer starts as soon as there's power)
    • go in the BIOS/power options
    • set AC Power Recovery to ON
  • Disable password expiration
    • execute command line "wmic path Win32_UserAccount set PasswordExpires=False"
  • Auto login when the computer starts
    • press the Windows key and type "netplwiz"
    • disable "users must enter a password..."
    • enter the user name and password to use
  • Configure the power options
    • press the Windows key, type "power" and select "Power Options"
    • edit the current power plan
      • disable put computer to sleep
    • go in the advanced settings
      • if using a USB to DMX interface or any USB devices, disable USB selective suspend AND disable HDD suspend as some users reported that it was shutting down the USB interface also.
      • if sending DMX via WIFI, disable wifi energy saving (put it on max performance)
  • Deactivate the firewall if you want to receive Art-Net/sACN/OSC/TUIO or other data via the network
  • Automatically start Lightjams when the computer starts and load the most recent project
    • In Lightjams, go in the view/configuration menu and in the general tab
    • Activate the "run at startup" option
  • Configure Teamviewer or Windows remote desktop (need Windows Pro)
    • Teamviewer can work on the local network (don't need internet access)

Notes:
  • To go in the BIOS, restart the computer and press F1 or F2 or del (depending on the computer) to enter the BIOS
  • To execute a command line, press the Windows key, type "cmd", right-click on the Command Prompt and select the "Run as administrator" menu item.
  • To start an app or load a file when Windows starts, click the windows key, type "run" + enter, and then type"shell:common startup". This will open the Startup directory and you can put a shortcut to what you want to load at startup. The directory should be something like: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp

Comments from Isaac:

-If using a laptop set 'when lid closes' to do nothing

    -Disconnect internet if not needed

    -Disable Hibernation

-shortcut for Power Options (can be used with Windows Key or WIN+R and seems to be language independant)

control powercfg.cpl

and for Advanced Power Options

control powercfg.cpl,,1

-disable Windows Updates? Not good, but may be useful if you want to be really safe, especially if internet connection is active

-Disable Windows Defender/Virus Scanner as it can be CPU/HDD intensive when doing a full scan

-Disable BSOD and set auto-reboot on System Errors (usually not needed, but check in case):

Right Click My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced System Settings -> Advanced Tab -> Under Startup and Recovery click Settings ->check the box for Automatic restart under System failure

Shortcut to get half-way there

control sysdm.cpl,,3

Update on Auto-Login:

On some newer versions of Windows 10, the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" checkbox may not be present in "netplwiz".

To get it back, open the Registry Editor and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PasswordLess\Device

and change the "DevicePasswordLessBuildVersion" DWORD value from 2 to 0.
