Good evening!

I would like help with this.

I have the following.

A strobe light that operates DMX on channel 1 by its fixture.

I'm using Lightjams, and I have a MIDI controller (Morningstar MC8) with which I can send out CC commands, and I will be transmitting the MIDI commands on channel 5.

Lightjams can control the strobe light. I've checked that.
The MIDI controller can send to Lightjams. I've checked that as well.

I would like to be able to press a button on my MIDI controller to activate the strobe light so that it turns on and off with an interval of 0.05 seconds.

How do I do this in the simplest way?

Thankful for all the help I can get!

Hi,

Is the channel 1 of your fixture a strobe channel, meaning that the fixture has a built-in strobe feature? Or do you want to send something like a value of 0 for 0.05s and then a value of 255 for 0.05s and repeat until you un-press your midi controller button?

In order to generate the on and off with Lightjams, the formula is strobe(0.05). To do it without a formula:
- create a grid
- put your fixture attribute corresponding to the channel 1 on the grid
- add a source and put it over the attribute
- select the power slider of the source and select the wave shape and then the strobe and put a time of 0.05
- go in the grid manager, select your grid and the activation slider and link it to your MIDI CC

This way, the MIDI CC will activate your grid that generates the strobe.

Thanks. I think I understand everything untill this:   go in the grid manager, select your grid and the activation slider and link it to your MIDI CC

Can you explain this a little bit further please? I

Hi,

The grid manager is the window where you can see all your grids. Go in the view/Grids menu to see it. Then select your grid in the list and you'll see the activation slider. Click on it, select the MIDI input and then click on your CC.

Perfect. Now a lot of pieces seems to fall in place for me!! Great.

Two more questions.

1. How do I get a moving head to make a continous circlar movement?
2. How do I get a sequence of things happen?

Sorry to ask so many questions!

Hi,

For moving heads and sequences, there are video tutorials to learn the basics: https://www.lightjams.com/tutorial.html

There are also a few posts in this forum about moving heads like this one: https://groups.google.com/g/lightjams/c/2yYJ9oxkr7Q/m/TmlbNifFAQAJ

You can also search on the forum for "sequence" like this: https://groups.google.com/g/lightjams/search?q=sequence
