I have a few fixtures that run their various patterns.

Say I would want to manually override all of them temporarily with an effect during a performance - say red or a strobe effect etc. - triggered via say a Midi keyboard would this be as easy as adding another source to the various grids and control that source(s) via the Midi keyboard?

That could work, but if you want to be sure the everything gets overridden and not mixed with the current effetct, you can:

-create a new grid with your override effect
-set the grid precedence to a higher number
-trigger that grid via your midi keyboard

The advantage of having a strobe grid with a higher precedence is that you don't have to add the strobe to all your other effects grids and you can trigger it anytime without having to worry about what is playing.
