Thought I'd try that vst plugin. Just for fun. On Ableton Live 9 Lite.

After figuring out that I have to assign a vst plugin folder through preferences in Ableton, I put the dll there.
Starting ableton with the plugin and clicking on it, I get an error.

A serious program error. So, that's it. :)

Thanks for the report! This may happen if you've put the 64-bit plugin DLL and Ableton is in 32-bit. Make sure to use the plugin DLL version that matches with Ableton.

Thanks for the advice. I think I indeed used the 64 bit version as I didn't know Ableton is in 32 bit. They need more bits.
I'll try the 32 bit dll. Thanks !

I deleted the 64 bit dll and put the 32 bit dll in the folder. But now Ableton doesn't see the plugin anymore.
I checked the version number of ableton, it seems to be a 64 bit version..

I'm gone download the ableton live 10 version. Maybe that helps. (64bits)

Ableton Live 10 Lite gives the same error. :(

Can you send me the error detail? Ableton says to restart to get the details. Alternatively, there may be more info by going in the Windows event viewer and then going in the Application logs tab.

It seems Ableton has made a crash report. Is that of any use ? I attached it.

It contains some info but I think the Windows Event viewer should contain more. Press the windows key and type 'event'. Then select the Event Viewer app. Then go in the Windows logs and in the Application. Maybe you'll see an error report there.

I cleared all the events, then reproduced the error. But In the windows logs I don't see anything about Ableton.
Strange. Am I looking in the right place here ?  I see more entries on the security tab. None in het Setup/System/Forwarded Events tab.

I can send the crash file to ableton if necessary. Maybe they know how
to fix it.
It's their product that crashes.

They have the crash report now. I asked them to fix it.
We'll see what happens.

I've fixed the problem with Ableton. The plugin wasn't outputting anything and Ableton was crashing... Now specify the output but do nothing to avoid wasting CPU.

You can download the new version (v45):

However, I may not be familiar enough with Ableton since I've not been able to get the timing info (bpm, track time, etc.). The knobs are working though and you can create nice automations in Ableton.

That is good news. So, Ableton won't crash anymore, that's a good thing anyways. I'm gone install the plugin again.

Very interesting. Technically the plugin isn't crashing anymore. I can see the plugin in Ableton. Lots of controls. And a square with a orange circle in the lightjams plugin in ableton.
And there are osc messages. They seem to be ignored. Is that a good thing?

ah. I see.. the osc messages need to be mapped. Then they are not ignored anymore.

Yes, map the OSC messages like in the sample project file here: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/lightjams/11oPC3WDGkc/Fu-MEQFUAgAJ

It looks like a useless plugin for ableton. I mapped osc message on inputs. But the values don't change.
In ableton you can decrease the tempo of the music, but the bpm value in the osc messages stays at 120. pffttt.

I've got the same thing here. Only the knobs are changing. I'm surprised Ableton isn't sending any timing info though :(

I downloaded the project file you mentioned. It has all the knobs of the plugin mapped. And the Ableton messages.
Ableton should send interesting stuff that you can simply use in Lightjams.

Ok, I've made a new version that is now working completely with Ableton. You can download the new VST plugin v46. Ableton just seems to be a little more picky in the way you can access the timing info.

hehe.. this is great. In the demo project the osc channel 82 is the ableton beatprogress. Very effective. haha. FUN !!

You should download the beta version since it shows the mapped OSC addresses in the input selector: https://www.lightjams.com/history.html.

I was running v522 already. But there seems to be a version higher. Not listed as such in the history. ?
As I'm missing the osc mapped values checkbox.

It's not in the OSC monitor window. Select a source, click the OSC icon and use the dropdown box at the bottom-left to switch from "All' to 'Mapped'.

I need to select the "any network adapters" in the osc configuration panel.
The inside this computer option doesn't give me the osc values.

Aha.. I see what confused me. Left of the Min and Max controls is the new dropdown. You need the dropdown to select mapped or All.
All is default, but it's not intuitive linked to the dropdown box. You can't see that All is a dropdown value. So, I didn't notice it at first.

But I have figured it out. I'm looking at the mapped values now.

I think it is all wonderful now. Now, I have many new knobs that are kind of functionless in ableton. But still I'm happy. haha.

You can have fun create timelines for the knobs in Ableton. It's handy if you want to sync the lights precisely with an audio track.

hm. I'm not sure I can figure that one out. There are 64 knobs. And I can link them to timeline events?

I feel that the All text should be connected to the dropdown triangle someway.
Maybe as like a box with a slightly different greyteint. like a few
percent ligther or so.

I'm also discovering Ableton. You can right-click on the VST plugin parameters and select "show automation". There's a draw mode to draw values.
