Hi all,
I have a  question regarding using Light Jams with relation to the Ableton Live DAW.
In regards to using midi, I have Ableton and Light Jams talking to each other but Im not sure how to have Ableton control certain parameters ( right now I only have the the master on/off working), I have 3 fixtures( Yorkville LED LP 4) with 4 pods per fixture, and what i want to do is have Ableton control via midi notes and note velocity for the on/off and hue for each pod. I don't know how to do this at all, so any pointers or if there is a tutorial to help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Zaid

Hi,

One way of working is to create multiple effects in Lightjams and trigger them via midi from Ableton. You create one grid per effect and then based on the latest received midi note, you can activate one grid at a time. You could also directly link the velocity of a midi note to the activation slider of a grid, allowing to activate multiple effects at the same time. You can also use the level of a midi CC to control the activation level of your grids. If you tell a bit more about how you want to use midi note and CC to activate your effects,  I'll give you more examples.

You can look at the sample projects named 'Effect Sequencer (cuelist)' and 'MIDI Notes to Colors': https://www.lightjams.com/tutorial.html#projectsSection

So i have 3 fixtures ( yorkville led lp4)  with 4 pods per fixture and what i want to do is set it up that each midi note in ableton controls a pod and the velocity for that note changes the colour for that pod. For example, pod 1 would be on note C1 and raising or lowering the velocity for that note would go thru the colour palette, and pod 2 would be on  note C#1 etc.... Hopefully that makes  some sort of sense..
Thanks,
Zaid

It looks like you want to control the hue attributes. Put all hue attributes on a grid. Then put one source under each attribute. Select each source and link it to the midi note you want. This way the velocity of each note determines the hue of each pod.

On another grid, put all saturaration attributes and set them to 100% with a source. Do the same for all intensity attributes but at 50%

So i got the midi to work on the seperate notes which is great but the velocities arent changing the hue when i move them, is there an alternative option?

You can use midi CC instead of notes. However, notes should be working. Can you can give more details what you tried and what isn't working? You can post your project file with the details about what midi notes you are sending and what you are expecting to happen.

So i put all the hues on one grid assigned each attritibe to source and each source i linked to a midi note, then on a seperate grid i put all the intensity attributes to a seperate grid and added a source to each attribute at 50 percent ( but had to assign to the same midi notes as hue otherwise nothing was happening)  and then same with saturstion ( each attribute to a source at 100 percent) on a seperate grid etc ( but i didnt assign them to midi notes). Im probably doing something wrong just not sure what.
Yeah i can add the project file here either later today or tomorrow.

As a result in ableton i can have each pod light up on seperate notes but the velocities of each note to change the hue isnt happening

If you've linked the power of a source to a note, then the velocity from 0-127 is mapped to 0-100% for the power. Then put the hue attribute you want to control right over this source. If you always get the red hue, that means the velocity is probably just 0 or 127 (note off and note on). Select the power slider of the source and you'll see the velocity that is sent by Ableton.
