Hi, I'm evaluating Lightjams for an LED rig I'm building, and so far I'm liking it a lot and considering buying a license. However, the framerate I achieve seems to be <1fps. This is running a small test setup of 60 LEDs via WLED, using sACN.

Using open source tools such as ledfx with the same network configuration on the same computer i have no issues with framerate.

Things I've already tried:

Using Art-NET instead of sACN.
Reducing the frame rate in Lightjams significantly
testing with only a few (4) LEDs added to lightjams

Would really appreciate any tips to work out how to get this running smoothly. I've had a brief look into my network configuration and my current router doesn't seem to have any options to configure behaviour for multicast or IGMP snooping on the local network, but as far as I can tell the default should be ok, and it certainly has no problem with the output from ledfx.

Thanks

Mathieu

Hi,

You can post your project file in order to let others see the details. Do you have any warnings or errors in Lightjams? If the frameratr is lower than the default 40fps, you should see a warning about a slow network.

Thanks for the quick response. I've been digging into possible options and I've been able to work out why there is a problem, and what the solution is, so I'll share it here in-case anyone else runs into a similar problem.

The problem is that my network wasn't happy with the multicast messaging which is the default configuration for LightJams. LedFx has an autodetect feature when working with WLED so it was actually using unicast messages, which helped me home in on what to do to resolve the problem. Once I knew what to look for I spotted that on the configuration for sACN while clicking on 'multicast' for a given universe doesn't give an obvious alternative, the tool tip tells me that I can type in an IP address to configure a unicast message for that universe. If I do this, then framerates return to normal.

On this basis, I can go ahead with my build and plan to get a license as I start designing some animations for it.

Thanks for letting us know about what you've found! Multicasting when the network switch doesn't support IGMP is like broadcasting. So the performance can degrade quickly and can be particularly awful on a wireless network.
