What does Potential Saving refer to in lighthouse?

I am trying to clarify what does potential savings refer to for my presentation?
If the resource size is 500 KiB, and the potential saving is 200 KiB, does this mean that I potentially reduce the image to 300 KiB (500-200) or 200 KiB?
Sorry, this might sound easy but there is no clear information and would like to make sure I understand it correctly.
To me, I believe potential saving means, the final image size could be 300 KiB.
