Hi all,

I am looking to implement the JPEG Pleno codec on the sub-aperture images of a 13x13 and 9x9 light field and obtain the bitrate vs psnr performance results.

After a lot of searching, the best shot I found was reference number [13] in Perra, Cristian, et al. "Performance analysis of JPEG Pleno light field coding." Applications of Digital Image Processing XLII. Vol. 11137. International Society for Optics and Photonics, 2019 :

[13] “JPEG Pleno Light Field Verification Model 2.0.” https://gitlab.com/wg1/jpeg-pleno-vm.

Unfortunately, the given link is not functional.
Can anyone kindly share an implementable software for the codec that can give the required objective results?

I have also run the software corresponding to the paper Astola, Pekka, and Ioan Tabus. "Wasp: Hierarchical warping, merging, and sparse prediction for light field image compression." 2018 7th European Workshop on Visual Information Processing (EUVIP). IEEE, 2018, given in link https://github.com/astolap/WaSP.
Here I do not get the numerical bitrate/bpp vs psnr results.

I see that there are a couple of papers in literature showing the performance of JPEG Pieno light field and would greatly appreciate help in running the same for my SAIs.
Looking forward to hearing about any softwares or information in this regard.

Thank you,
Joshitha R.

Dear Joshitha,

Actually, the link is functional but I am not sure if you have permission to access it or not. I think only delegated people can have access to the JPEG Pleno VM software.

For the second question, you might need to calculate bpp and objective metrics yourself:
bpp = (size of bitstream in bits)/(x*y*u*v), where (x,y) is spatial resolution and (u,v) is temporal resolution.
for quality metrics, you can use: https://github.com/HadiAmirpour/LFQA

Kind regards,

Thank you for your response Dr. Amirpour!

Would also really appreciate any help from the group regarding how to vary quantization parameters in the implementation of the 'Wasp paper' (https://github.com/astolap/WaSP)
Or any other lead on JPEG Pleno.

Regards,
Joshitha R.

Merry Christmas to all!

Hi Joshitha,

This may be what you are looking for: https://gitlab.com/wg1/jpeg-pleno-refsw
Regarding WaSP, were you able to get it running on Linux? I tried but failed to get it working.

Thanks and Regards,
Mohana
