Hey.

I"m thinking about "renting" 5-gallon bottles and picking them up in Reno. http://www.burningman.com/preparation/event_survival/water.html#.U-edRYBdUjA

Then returning the bottles after the burn.

Does anyone have a way to avoid the recycling of a million 2.5 gallon plastic containers ?

Hi Jim, David Franklin here.

I purchased a 5-gallon container for 14 bucks on Amazon with free 2-day shipping... I'm sure it will get more use in the future and limits driving and renting/returning hassle as well.  Just a thought...

I'm considering buying 400 pounds of water in Gerlach for one of the rain barrels.  I've never gotten water in Gerlach before but why not, you don't have to carry it far.
Cheers,
Sean

Correction: Gerlach Water Sales Hours

We had the wrong dates in our recent post about water sales in Gerlach. Here it is, only it's right this time. Heh.

The last place to fill up on water (and thereby the most effective way to reduce your vehicle weight, and thus gas expenditure) is at the Gerlach General Improvement District, the local governing body of Gerlach.

Located at 330 Short Drive, you'll see signs to follow as you enter Gerlach.

The GID will be selling potable water to fill up RVs and water tanks of any size, with the funds going to support the town of Gerlach.

Rates:
50 cents per gallon up to 100 gallons
45 cents per gallon between 100 and 200 gallons
40 cents per gallon for above 200 gallons.

5, 7 & 15-gallon water containers also available (free water with purchase of container). Cash only, but an ATM is onsite.

Hours:
August 18-21, 9am-5pm
August 22-24, 8am-midnight
August 25-27, 9am-5pm

Finally, they are really in need of volunteers for the Aug 25-27 shifts (perks may include free water and definitely includes meeting/helping lots of Burners)!

Call them at 775-557-2601 or email them at gerla...@gmail.com for any questions.

Hey Sean,

Do you know if there is any room or availability for one to contribute towards purchase of containers/water/transport to share water?  I managed to find a way to bring 25gallons of water last year, but this year logistics are flowing quite differently on my end, and I have concerns about pulling off the same this year.  Unfortunately, water takes up a lot of space and is super heavy, so I realize that this is not a small request.

Anyone else is welcome to chime in with ideas on how people who are flying in should handle things.

I'll bring as much water as I dare,  but I'll bring some extra.  Between us we should have enough water.  For those not camping with our shower before, it uses about 2 gallons per shower.  Worth it.
Cheers,
Sean

Thanks, Sean.  If you have any rough calculations on how much you can spare and suggested donation, that would be helpful so I know how much I need to source from other places.  I'm trying to make sure that my friend (who is arriving Tuesday evening via the Burner Express bus) and I are covered.

I'll commit to 7.5g (3 of those 2.5gal things) for whatever they cost, which isn't much.  Email me privately if you cannot source more.
Cheers,
Sean

Hi, this is Shanti.  Paul and I are new to the camp, and new to Google Groups.  We are bringing as an offering to the camp 100 gallons of water.  It will be too heavy to lift out of the truck but the camp can siphon from it.  Looking forward to meeting you all!  S&P

Hey Sean,

Every little bit helps, thank you.  I'm sourcing from multiple sources and I'm sourcing for my camping partner and I.  The 7.5g will be a huge help.  LMK if you prefer to be paid on site or via PayPal.

THANKS!!!

Paul and I have offered up 100 gallons for the camp.  But if there are 25 people, that amounts to only 4 gallons per person--not enough for anyone to rely upon for survival.

Shanti - Babak and his friend need water cause they're air dropping into camp. Did you guys already talk ? The 100 gallons is excellent. Thank you.

1.5g x 10-days * 2 people = 30 gallons.

We should calculate your water into other people's totals to try to avoid buying too many of those shitty little plastic 2.5g containers.

I have not talked with Babak, but I think with our water and Sean's Babak will have plenty.  We have extra but I feel a bit cautious because I have no idea how many people are depending on how many gallons from us, and even if I did, I don't trust my math.  That said, we definitely have 100 gallons, and then some.
Thanks,
Shanti
