I suggest we remove the following from Lift ≥ 4.x

  • jbcrypt (BCrypt)

  • javamail (Mailer

I don't think these are Lift's responsibility, and people use other tools better suited tools.

What do you think?

Mailer yes, drop it

Bcrypt my bias is to keep it for now for password hashing

Lift, the simply functional web framework https://liftweb.net

I’m inclined to agree with dpp that we keep BCrypt for now. I haven't used Mailer in forever so I won't miss that one.

I don't get it, from net.liftweb.util.BCrypt (which is marked as @Deprecated) docs:

This class is a passthrough to org.mindrot.jbcrypt.BCrypt

What value does it bring keeping this around as one can do precicely the same by including the org.mindrot:jbcrypt-library?

If @Deprecated should mean anything, now is the time to deprecate it IMO:

I forgot we had deprecated it. Hah. I remove my objection.
